WildCard Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 At least two Cardinal transfers, Trevin Michael (Oklahoma) and Marcus Olivares (Texas), pitched in this year's MCWS. Michael is the closer for Oklahoma so there is a chance that he may throw the last pitch in Omaha. The transfer portal gives players opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have but it is already hurting schools like Lamar. The rich get richer....... Quote

I heard on the telecast that Olivarez who was used extensively this year by UT only pitched 15 innings for Lu in 2021. Not sure of the circumstances. Kind of a karma deal when Lu won at OU this season. Michael was the pitcher that ended the 9th inning for the Sooners. Quote

geezer Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 Hmm. where would we have ended up if we had Trevin Michael? Probably similar or same place. There really is only room for one closer and although Michael flourished with the Sooners this year, had he been in Beaumont he and Dallas would have been vying for the same spot and neither might have had the year they did. Lamar needed one more starter that was consistent and a couple of middle to long relievers to step up. Quote

He did throw the last pitch for OU but not the way I expected. Quote

We would have had a much better overall record and arguably would have won the WAC tournament. He was our number one starter when he was here if I recall correctly Quote
