I would say that it is safe to say the Harrison Tatum is probably leaving the team/no longer playing football. The rest of the article is good stuff.

Mike, I was impressed with the 3-4 defense and how well they played being their first practice in pads. I like the move of Blake Chavis to OLB. I think he is going to have a good year. He would have sacked the QB a few times if they were allow to hit the QB.

I didn't know Payton Ploch moved to offense. What number was he?

I loved the "Oklahoma Drill", "The Pit" or "Shotgun Alley". Whatever you want to call the drill it is awesome and the "head-hunters" will step forward. Then the guy willing to run between the tackles will stand out.

Offensively, I agree with everything you wrote. BTW, that was a very nice write-up. Enjoyed Coach Woodards interview as he pretty much echoed my thoughts.

Ploch was #23 in white, at least I hope so. Thats what they have on my roster.

You could see guys like Washington, Prescott and Garrett loved the drill. Even Mossakowski was into it.

Mike what makes you rank the qbs the way you do in your article. Is the new guy just that good?

I'm ranking them at this point of the process which is one practice in full pads so my opinion could be different as I watch them practice more. Right now I think Mossakowski and Johnson are the top 2 but Ryan is just a little more accurate with his throws at this point. He's a big guy that has a strong arm and can make all the throws. He's also elusive enough on his feet to move the pocket. (not just a tall statue) I could easily see Kueck utlizing both in a different way than they did last season. Last year it looked to me that Whitten was just alternating QB's to find someone hot, not using special designed plays that would utilize Jeremy's strenghts to help him succeed.

Don't hold me to it cause this has a long way to go and things could obviously change.

If Woodard hadn't made any coaching changes then I would be not be excited about next year. But with all the new coaches and what I'm reading here I can't wait for fall to get here. All they need to do to improve on last year is just play better defense. I think we'll see that this coming season.

I always thought Blake Chavis was undersized as a defensive lineman. Him moving to linebacker should ease the blow a little of Coleman not coming back.

I don't think the loss of Bevil, JJ Hayes and Marcus Jackson is going to be felt that much because of coaching changes. With Garrett back and the other offensive weapons the team has, there's no reason they can't be at least as good, if not better.

Both Chavis and Malbrough will definately benefit in this new scheme. They are made for this 3/4 LB position IMO. With Beard and Washington lurking inside the LB crew should be solid.

Good stuff Mike,

I echo coach's comments, if it were not for all the new faces on the coaching staff I wouldn't really be looking forward to fall like I am now.

Although Woodard spoke about being thin at WR, I do not expect that position to be a problem, and with the amount of Juco's DB's we signed and a new dedicated DC I think our defensive units can both improve (LB's Linemen and Secondary).

My biggest concern still would have to be the offensive line, we lost a few big guys that were seniors plus Oden and we have virtually no experienced linemen coming in from lower ranks.

I think the kid we signed from Rusk could be a candidate to step in as a freshman and contribute right away and maybe some of our smaller linemen like Justin Brock have gotten to a size where they can contribute. The one positive I see in that unit is they may have the best coach.

From all I have heard Dennis McKnight sounds like the real deal, I think he will maximize what we will get out of this unit, but will that be enough without a transfer?

I would love for someone at the QB position to excel to a point that they can actually make the line look better. This would take the burden off of a unit that really needs it.

One question I have is what type of offense does Coack K (the OC) plan on running? I would really like to see some 2 tight end sets, and anything that could maximize our use of the middle of the field.

As LamarMcDad has said we seemed to go away from working the middle of the field when it was working. (UCA game) If our offense ran like it did in the first half against UCA then we will have a good season.

Hopefully we can find out more about the offense and possibly the development of the offensive line in the weeks to come.

Thanks Mike!

After watching Saturday's scrimmage I too believe this coaching staff will improve the execution of this team. I saw some actual coaching and correcting of players on technique. They were making players be accountable for sloppy mistakes. Great training technique. I too loved the intensity and chatter. Can't wait for season to get here. One question. What makes you rank Jeremy Johnson above Caleb Berry.

Who are our RB's this year? Did Cam Washington ever make it in or is he still having academic issues?

Currently they have returning starter DePauldrick Garrett (5-5 195) Mike Venson (5-9 177) and Caleb Harmon (5-8 205).

Incoming Freshman not on campus yet should be: Cameron Washington, Darrell Harris who where both Texas Class 4A all state running backs and Desmond Richards who was on the All State 2nd Team.

I haven't asked about Washingtons status in awhile but its one of the questions asked in the Ask the Coach Q/A we have posted on the forum so maybe Coach Woodard can fill us in with the lastest on him. If he doesnt qualify its not the end of the world, Harris was rated just as high or higher than Washington by most services.

Go watch some video of him and you will see why he is relatively impressed. I think he's actually being overly negative talking about his long throwing motion. Not that big of an issue, especially in college.

What position is Ploch playing on offense?

Tight End

What? He is too good of an athlete to play tight end.

My thoughts exactly! We already have 4 on the roster. He should stay on the defensive side of the ball if that is the case.

Well TE requires skill too. My only thought though is why would we be moving guys from LB to TE when we're transition to a 3-4.

We need more LB's not less, maybe with the number of DEs moving to LB they though Ploch could go back to offense since he has experience there?
