40 times. JJ. 4.81. Marcus 4.48 Darby 5.01. #bigredinsider

Damn, JJ really needs a better 40. That is not going to help him. :(

Maybe they will do 2.

The problem is they're using stop watches, and you can hear the "beeps" of the start and stop. Play around with a stop watch for any amount of time and you'll realize that they aren't super accurate when you're talking about fractions of a second. The stop watch may have read 4.81, but there's no telling what he really ran until it's recorded against multiple timers or a laser time.

Very true, but these numbers are only slightly faster than what he was doing this time last year when the scouts came.

Really a tough break for J.J. I've got a lot of respect for him, I've heard nothing but good things.

Marcus Jackson kind of gets over shadowed by J.J. but he had alot of big plays too, he's also an excellent guy, very polite and soft spoken, his father is a preacher.

J.J. may still have some type of chance if he can get into someones camp and impress them enough with his ability to box out defenders. Then they will keep him around on a practice squad.

Someone text Mike to rotate his camera once clockwise. The videos keep coming out sideways. They are much appreciated.

Just pretend you're laying your side on the turf watching them run.

I bet both guys will probably have to go the free agent route for any chance at making a team.

Here's a good deep ball from Doug to Hayes:

I think why I consider JJ a pro prospect is not really just his catching ability, it's his physique, even at the NFL level I think he could use his size to box guys out when making the diving catch. The only problem is his speed, in my mind that's the only thing I can think of that would really restrict him at the next level. I would like to know what JJ's top end speed is, his 40 might not be great, but if his top end speed when he gets going is still good that will help him at that level because with one good juke you can still find yourself ahead of a defender with a better 40.

The 40 measures your acceleration alot more than the top end speed.

So what do you guys think so far?

Marcus has some pretty good stats. I like his vertical and 40, both of those stats are competitive with out WR's.

Mike on what he saw out of both receivers:

@bigredinsider

I think Marcus Jackson did nothing but help himself today. Good jumps. Nice 40 and ran good routes. JJ great routes but 40 time will hurt.

thanks for the pics/video LU...very nice.

Here's what Coach Woodard told me about how he thought the workouts were going.

"We'll they're going about like I thought. JJ's never gonna run a 4.3 but he's gonna do well in the change of direction drills and he's gonna do well catching the football. Marcus I think has done well for himself, he ran in the 4.4's twice and Darby ran a 4.85 so he may have raised an eyebrow or two so I think they are all off to a good start."

I asked about the nice turnout for Pro Day.

"We'll I like it, it's interest in our program and our players and it's good for our program. I think the further along we go and the more prospects we have we'll have even more interest."

Then finally I asked if any juniors would run for the scouts.

"No, this is just for the seniors. The juniors are gonna run plenty tonight at 7."

Overall my thoughts on the WR's at pro day were Marcus Jackson really helped himself. I said it yesterday right after the workout and it was proven later in the day when he was invited to another big workout in Detroit. He got some "ohhs" on his vertical jump, had the longest broad jump ran good routes and had minimal drops. He has the tools so hopefully he'll get a shot at the next level.

JJ's 40 time wasn't what he wanted but with his route running and exceptional hands we can hope someone will give him a look because good hands like that cannot be taught.

I think Pro Day was a success for all the players and Lamar. There was a good turnout and like Coach Woodard said it'll continue to grow as Lamar gets more prospects. Not to mention, local athletes that have potential can come workout at the Pro Day as we saw a couple local guys working out that didn't attend Lamar but were from the area.
