Mens Basketball Exhib vs LSU Alexandria

Featured Replies

Only live stats to go by, but Lamar up by nine points at the half.  Offense is scoring, but LSUA is scoring also.  Junior transfer Marmolejos is leading all scorers with 17 points in fifteen minutes of playing time and is 5-7 on three point attempts.  Looking forward to hearing from those that could attend this game.

The fact LSUA has shot more FTs than the Cardinals is my worry- it'd be one thing if the Cards weren't playing much defense, but 19 FTs by a team we should have put away is worrisome for me.

Ouch, Lamar falls 83-80 to non-division one program.  Appears to be similar issues to last years team, turnovers, poor defense.

Brooks is a bust !

Exhibition game blahhhh glorified scrimmage with 3 starters essentially out and brand new team. The new guys were encouraging.

Was Errol White sick? He’s pretty much the energizer bunny and needs to fill Terry Anderson’s minutes (although he lacks the 3).

You would think on talent alone LU would win.  Bad coaching would explain the loss.  Brooks was a lifelong assistant for a reason and he's only the HC here because he was a star player under Tubbs.

Four players did not play, Pennebaker and Knight (returning), Gambrell and Jeffries (freshman), all are guards.  Of the two returning players neither were capable of carrying the team last year.  Looking at the stats Lamar is missing an inside game.  The bigger players that played were all in foul trouble.  Hamilton only played ten minutes and did not score.  Unless this performance was a fluke, this will be another disappointing season, and it is past time to be finding a new coach.

No defense.......sporadic at best.

There was too much relying on the 3 to take a 10pt. lead and then just give it up.

I heard that Pennebaker and Knight were injured and would be back soon. Hamilton was not effective with no points and a disappointment. White played pretty well, but considering who we were playing needs to step up his game.

Beaumont's Holifield was impressive on offence. He is a flyer around the basket. Marmolejos, Barrs and Dawsey like to drive the basket.

But no defense......sporadic at best.

There was a day (actually for 20 years or so) that LU basketball was my number one favorite team/sport to follow.  By the time we got to the late 90's, with Grey Giovanine as coach, I just lost interest. I let my season tickets go and I now just check in and keep up with how they are doing, but don't spend really any time following.  It became really clear then that the leadership really did not want a team that could get into and win a game or two in the NCAA tournament.  They left the Sun Belt, clearly admitting that they knew they didn't have what it took to compete (I say it was coaching much more than financial resources).  We had a pickup with Jimmy Simmons in leadership, but truly his focus was football (he wanted to re-establish the marching band) and I am thankful for that.  It is sad to see that basketball is an afterthought, and we field a team just so we can have enough sports to stay conference eligible.  Truly sad when you think of where we were in the late 70's to mid 80's with basketball.

I liked Alvin Brooks as a player, but he doesn't have what LU needs, the ability to take a little and make a lot out of it.  That is what Tubbs had back in the 70's, and what we need from every coach, in what is considered a major sport, to be a championship level program.

Remember, winners win no matter what the circumstances, losers don't!
