I looked up Terry Anderson who had transferred to High Point after a good junior year at Lamar. I hated to see him go, but he’s now on a team with minimal stats/minutes as a senior (he could be hurt). I think it says two things:

1) I’m confident in Coach Brooks’ ability to bring in talent who will fill in the holes left by the transfers and graduated. No offense to Anderson, but Holifield might be better. At worst, he’s a seamless transition.

2) If Anderson isn’t hurt, he’s riding the bench on a team that is 13-4 in a competitive Big South. If that’s the case, I think Lamar still has some unrealized potential when guys from last year who averaged 13.1 ppg are expendable to where they transfer. Again, if he’s hurt, this point is moot.

Interested to hear others’ thoughts…

Jakevion Buckley is another player that transferred last year.  He's now at SLU and doing pretty well now but it looks like Alexis Marmolejos is a better player.  I believe that Brooks upgraded those two positions and after a slow start trying to fit the pieces together this team is playing pretty well.

Anderson would be a great contributor on this team, it’s a shame he left but Holifield is certainly an upgrade defensively with his frame.

I think Holifield has another couple of levels to unlock before becoming the player he’s destined to be… hope he stays past this year!

Not about this squad but during a timeout of the HCC games four players from the glory days were introduced:  Tommy Sewell, Brian and Tony Kelleybrew, and George Milhouse.  I didn't see it in any of the news media coverage so it's one of those you may missed if you weren't at the game.  Sewell is still highest draft pick, in any sport, the Cardinals ever had.

I can close my eyes and see Sewell’s jump shot. There was something unique about.  When he caught the ball in rhythm you could just go ahead and mark it in the book.
