Cards drop the second game of the double header this afternoon as UTA score three runs in the top of the seventh to get a 4-2 win and salvage the last game of the series.  The Cards will return to action Tuesday, taking on Arkansas Pine Bluff.

With their RPI where it is, they have to win every series here on out to be able to make it to the tournament as an at-large team.

I think the Southland can get 2 teams in due to their strength, but those midweek games are imperative for RPI.

I really think that we get an A-L bid if we:
- win the midweek games against UAPB, SHSU, UH, PV and split with TAMU & Texas
- go 12-3 the rest of the way in conference
By my math that gets them to 41-12.

The new format for the conference tournament starts this year, right? So, if we can get up to a top-2 seed, we host a pod... right?

Still a lot of baseball to play, but a tournament projection with three SLC teams going to the regionals is a big improvement from a few years ago.

Lamar gets back on the winning track with a 3-1 victory over Arkansas - Pine Bluff.  Cards host Nicholls this weekend.  Cards currently sit in sixth place with six losses.  Lamar really can't afford anymore losses if they hope to be a host team for the tournament pods.

Lamar takes game one in the series against Nicholls 5-4 in ten innings.  Game two tomorrow at 5 PM.

Keep stacking up the wins. Need a sweep to climb up the standings.

Come back Cards win another game in walk off fashion.  Cards gave up four runs to Nicholls over the first four innings before scoring one in the bottom of the fourth.  Cards get another run in the fifth to close the gap to two runs before giving up two runs in the sixth for Nicholls to get back to a four-run lead.  Lamar gets two runs in the eighth and then give them back in the top of the ninth before scoring five runs in the bottom of the ninth to take game two of the series 9-8.  The series will close out tomorrow beginning at 1PM with Lamar going for a sweep.

  • On Sunday April 13th, the Cards finish the sweep of Nicholls with 16-5 run rule win.  Cards had two big innings scoring five in the second and nine in the fifth.  Cards go on the road for the upcoming week of games.

Cards get a blowout win at Sam Houston for their mid-week game.  Cards win 18-9 scoring six runs in the second, eleven in the seventh and one in the nineth.  Sam scored two in the bottom of the first and then chipped their way back with one run in the third and then got four runs in the fourth to take back the lead.  Sam added two runs in the sixth before Lamar blew the game open in the seventh.  Cards will return to action Thursday at Northwestern State for the beginning of a three game series.

Cards take game one of the series at Northwestern State 8-2.

Cards fall in ten innings. 2-1  Missed a great opportunity to make up a game on two of the teams ahead of them in standings.

Northwestern State takes game three.  This loss really hurts Lamar's chance for getting one of the two top seeds for the conference tournament and unfortunately probably also makes a really small chance of Lamar getting an at large berth to the NCAA Tournament.  Cards still have three conference series to play and four mid-week games with three of them against Power Conference schools to close the regular season but the pitching will really need to step up.

Cards split there two mid-week games with a loss to Houston and a victory over Prairie View A&M.

Cards take game one of weekend series versus UNO with a bases loaded walk off hit in the bottom of the 10th.  4-3

Cards win game two against UNO, guarantying a series win and with the four teams ahead of them in the standings playing each other a good chance to pick up a game in the standings.  Cards go for the sweep tomorrow at 1 PM.

Lamar sweeps UNO with a run rule 13-3 performance Sunday afternoon.  Cards move into a tie with McNeese for third place as UTRGV sweeps the Cowboys to move into first place with a twenty and seven conference record and only one conference series left.  Lamar has two conference series left one with Southeastern and one with HCU.  Cards will need to win both series and have a little help to get to the second place hosting spot.

Update per the SLC website which was updated following end of play on Sunday.  Lamar is in fourth place by themselves, tied with UTRGV in the loss column but three games behind as RGV has played one more conference series than Lamar.  Lamar is one game back of McNeese who is in second place with one less loss than Lamar and UTRGV and two games back of first place SLU who Lamar plays next weekend in Hammond, but before that that the Cards will travel to College Station for a mid-week game against the aggies on Tuesday evening.

Lamar falls 13-6 at Texas A&M.  The Cards scored a run in the top of the second to take the early lead but then gave up ten unanswered runs over the next four innings to be down by nine runs starting the top of the 7th.  Neither team scored in the seventh and then in the top of the eighth the Cards scored five runs aided by a missed call by an umpire.  A&M got three runs in the bottom of the inning and held Lamar in the top of the ninth for the win.  Lamar travels to Hammond on Friday to take on Southeastern in a pivitol series for the conference.  If Lamar can get another sweep they could enter the last week of the season tied for second at minimum, but that will be a tall order.

This team is good at beating the weak teams but can't beat the good teams.
