Cards host Northwestern St with seven games remaining including this one.  Lamar is currently in seventh place and no chance to get to the top of the conference before the tournament.  That said Lamar plays all four of the teams between them and third place in the remaining games, so Lamar can climb up the seeding chart.  Apparently, Lee and Holifield are somewhat in the doghouse as neither of them started the game.  To me Lamar is missing guys that will or can make the contested shot consitently.

Lamar down by four at the half, 37-33.

I know others have at least thought it.  It's time for a new coach.  I'll give Brooks credit as a recruiter, but Lamar has lost too many games because they got out coached and don't really have an offense.

He just got a three year extension before the season started!

Lamar down big at the half in Corpus 38-22.  Cards shooting a poor 30% from the field and one of seven from three-point range.  Also getting out rebounded.

Another blown opportunity at UTRGV.  Can't make the critical free throws and give up open three-point shots to UTRGV late in the game.

Four games left two at home and two on the road.  Need to win three out of four games, probably just to get a bottom seed.

Lamar playing UNO without East and Wilhite, but hanging close, down three at the half 32-29.  Not sure what is wrong with Wilhite, but they said East is out with an ankle injury and has been in a walking boot since Monday nights game.

Cards fall to UNO by a final of 77-71.  The Cards have three games left and unless East makes it back, I doubt they win another game.  If they don't make the tournament is that enough to get rid of Brooks.  I know he got an extension last year but you can't say the program is headed in a good direction.

Time to start over. Brandon Chappell, anyone?

Where is Chappell at now?  Does he have any record as a head coach?

Brandon Chappell is in his first season as an assistant coach at Arizona after joining the staff in May 2025. He spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Texas.

In three seasons at Texas, Chappell (“shuh-PELL”) and the Longhorns advanced to the NCAA Tournament all three seasons, advancing to the Elite Eight in 2023, and averaged 23 wins per season. The Longhorns also won the 2023 Big 12 Tournament championship and finished the year ranked No. 5 in the final Associated Press poll.

Prior to Texas, Chappell was an assistant coach at UNLV for the 2021-22 season, helping three Rebels earn All-Mountain West postseason accolades.

From 2017-21, the native of Beaumont, Texas, spent four seasons on Tic Price’s staff at Lamar University. At his alma mater, the Cardinals won 20 games in 2019 and David Muoka was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.

Chappell spent one season (2016-17) as an assistant coach at Arkansas-Fort Smith on the Division II level, winning the regular season and conference tournament championship. Prior to that, he served as a graduate assistant for two seasons at Northern Arizona University for then-NAU head coach and current Arizona associate head coach Jack Murphy, where the Lumberjacks tied the program record for wins in 2015.

He began his coaching career at Armstrong State, an NCAA Division II school in Savannah, Ga., for the 2013-14 season.

He has been with good programs but no Head Coaching experience.  Not sure I would want to give him his first shot.  Lamar needs a winning coach.

Someone has to give an up and comer assistant their first shot at head coach.  At this point, what do we have to lose?

Reality doesn’t matter who the next HC is unless we increase the NIL budget. How much do you contribute?

Seems like for the last 30 years it hasn't mattered who was hired, the results have always been the same: mediocrity or worse.  SportsGuy is right, these days it's all about the money.

Monday evening against Nicholls finds the Cards up by three at the half, but it is not because LU is playing good.  Lamar is shooting a miserable sub 30% from the field but the right players have shot free throws with Lamar making seven of eight.  Lamar has the lead because Nicholls is shooting about the same as Lamar.  Hopefully, Lamar will step it up in the second half.

Tied at 37 a piece with 7:41 left.  I don't understand the number of players Lamar has that seem afraid to take a shot going to the rim.

Lamar falls on a last few second's drive by Nicholls.  Coaching mistake and or player execution.  Lamar was up by one point with five seconds left and three fouls to give.  If you use the fouls to use up the time Nicholls doesn't get the layup.

Two games left against teams behind you in the standings but you have to win.

Watching this game was painful from the start. Both teams played like crap.

pennebaker makes 2 nice shots, take him out. White playing good, take him out.
