TBonesLU
I heard about this a while back from within the AD while it was on a "do not disclose" basis. I'm glad it worked out!
LAZEEK
Good size, great speed and had a ton of D1 offers. Over 30 of them!!! Kid could be a real stud in the SLC!!!
coachacola
Few tweets from Gina Mizell (covers OSU sports I think): KJ was projected to be a backup at outside receiver in the fall. Had a good spring; three catches for 95 yards in spring finale. From Woodard: WR Kevin Johnson has signed with Lamar. Transferring from Oklahoma St. Will be a redshirt soph. I can't find any articles about him transferring. Maybe he's coming to Lamar to get plenty of playing time since he was going to be a backup at OSU. Guest LU4LIFE
Sounds like a good pick up for LU.
Big T
This is a huge pick up by Lamar! We desperately needed some depth at the WR position. Now if we could get a defensive lineman or two.
Guest LU 17
Awesome pick up for LU. We were thin at WR, and coming from a program that produces WR's, I hope this works out.
Guest LU 17
Just watched some video on this young man. I noticed that always seemed to get himself wide open. His footwork looks really good and saw somewhere that he had 4.5 speed. He also looked like he could catch the ball. This could be a really good pick up. LUSportsFan
I looked at some of the OSU fan boards this afternoon. Looked like there were several fans that were expecting good things from him a couple of months ago. Glad he will be a Cardinal!!
Mike
Johnson visited other schools which one which was Sam Houston State but he chose Lamar. This was a good pickup in an obvious position of need for the Cardinals.
Guest CardAmbassador
This is a very nice addition. I had heard a month or so ago that we were looking into this guy, I'm really glad it happened. This will take some of the difficulty out of losing guys like Hayes and Jackson.
coachacola
This is a huge pick up by Lamar! We desperately needed some depth at the WR position. Now if we could get a defensive lineman or two. Too bad we couldn't land his teammate, 6-2 285 lb DT Diamonte Wheeler. He's transferring to Sam Houston State.
Mike
couple more facts on Kevin Johnson from his Oklahoma State profile: He had 3 catches for 95 yard in this years Oklahoma State Spring game. He's a cousin of standout NFL running back Clinton Portis, Had over 30 scholorship offers out of high school which included Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois and Minnesota. He's listed at 6-1 192 and his 40 time was listed on rivals at 4.4.

This was a good pickup in an obvious position of need for the Cardinals. This is a great pick up for you guys. I know our staff was very disappointed when they were told he was not academically eligible to come to Sam and it would have been an uphill climb very few guys could make over the summer to become eligible. He should make an immediate impact for you guys especially if your new o-line coach can whip them into shape to give the QB time to malke the throws. I look for Lamar to be competing at the top of the conference in 2013 if all these changes pans out.

LUSportsFan
I was wondering the same thing. US New & World Reports showed both of us as selective in our admission requirements. Based on their website, we accepted 47% of the applicants in 2010. Sam accepted 67% of its applicants in 2010. My understanding was that we were both moving toward being more selective. I checked admission requirements for both of the universities and they appeared to be similar.
TBonesLU
It would appear he chose Lamar over Sam because he liked it better.
West
Considering he's a receiver, I'm sure he would rather be the #1 option in an offense rather than play in the option offense at Sam. Just speculation though, Sam obviously has the superior program right now.
Guest CardAmbassador
KK99 only makes comments here when he can appear to be rational while taking a shot at us. I'm pretty sure Lamar has the exact same admission requirements as SHSU. Furthermore transfer students have different (and easier) requirements than incoming freshman. Again, glad we got this guy, he should do well here, I think he will be the #1 guy by the end of camp.

kingkat99
Let me elaborate, he is short some hours and our staff is not confident he can make them up. No jabs this time just stating what I was told by one of our coaches. I see even after not posting for 6 months some things never change here. FWIW the same coach told me that Garret will end up at SFA.
