Can we get a position? I don't even mean so we can look it up. Just so we can see how much better that position may be...

The only reason I wouldn't want Garret is apparently that was not his only incident up there. We seemed to lack discipline these last two years, I'm hoping in this third year, if I see anything it will be discipline.

As for this DE. Could be nice if this guy is legit, if we start rushing the QB with some quality DE's in this 3-4 scheme it could make it really hard to throw against the cards which takes pressure of the secondary.

MAN IS IT FOOTBALL SEASON YET?

Oh there is nothing wrong with being from Kansas one of my good friends here is from Kansas, big Jay-Hawks BBall fan actually, but he had the good sense to go to Wisconsin for undergrad. (I kid, I kid) btw I'm a fairly regular 610 AM listener now.

There's another guy from Kansas that's transferring:

Green, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound red-shirt freshman from Houston, joined the Jayhawks as a defensive end last spring and red-shirted to add weight. Last week, when Weis released KUs first spring depth chart, Green appeared as a second-string guy but was listed at defensive tackle.

I agree it would be great to take pressure of the secondary. Keep in mind that we have a healthy Steven Murray-Sesay this year at CB. He was good for us our first year. So not only would having a good pass rush be great, but in the event that the opposition does pass, it'll be nice to have a good string at CB and DB.

I keep hearing about chemistry. Let's get someone that will be a good fit. We have already seen what happened with Oden and Johnson.

It's funny you mention chemistry. If you read and listen to all Coach Woodards answers here on on the air he often mentions how he likes where this team is at. He says to not expect many transfers unless a player fits in the current locker room. When the last two JUCO guys were signed a few weeks back he stressed how well their meetings went and that they "would fit in good here."

I think this team had some chemistry issues in the past and along with the new coaching staff is trying to keep this group positive and together as a team.

CA Try 790 in the morning. I think you will enjoy. I wish we could just get an FBS player that came here because he wanted to play ball. Other than Johnson, it seems like we keep talking about other teams problems.

It's worth it for a school like Lamar to take chances on these guys as long as their situations arent so bad that theyre not worth messing with. Anthony Oden got two strikes at Arkansas because of his talent but they eventually had enough. He didn't get in any trouble here and was worth giving his last chance because if he had been motivated to make it to the next level he wouldve been a steal for Coach Woodard and Co. Adren Dorsey is worth taking a chance on after he left from A&M, Jacody Coleman was worth taking a chance on when he left Iowa, etc etc. None of these guys have had issues while here and it's good for Lamar.

You're correct when you mention Kevin Johnson is coming here to play ball. He wasnt in any trouble at Oklahoma State and chose Lamar over other schools that were vying for his services because he probably saw the depth chart and knew he could be the man in Beaumont.

The kid I'm referencing in this thread as a rumored target isn't in any type of trouble but may be looking for a little more playing time.

Mike, I agree that some these guys are looking for a fresh start after leaving some of these FBS programs. I think we welcome whoever, if the coach allows them in. I guess i am still mad with the Oden situation. I had high expectations for him as a left tackle. The guy was probably a talented player, but I could tell by mid season he would not be back. He had no team concept at LU. I am ready for some football...when do two a days start.

IMO the perfect situation is if they can keep having strong recruiting classes like the current incoming Freshmen then use the limited schollys left available to fill positions of need (like WR this year) with guys hungry for playing time from bigger schools, or a guy that may have had a problem and deserves a second chance.

Taking a chance on a couple guys where the reward outweighs the risk is better than relying on a team full of risk/reward guys.

Did that come out right?

I disagree that we have taken alot of guys with issues though. In 3 recruiting seasons now we have taken exactly 2 guys that have had some off the field issue (Oden and Dorsey) none has been a problem while here.

But some players attitudes (not just transfer guys) aren't where they need to be to play team ball here.

Am I mistaken? I don't think Coleman was in any type of trouble at IU.

I'm trying to keep my expectations of the 2012 season down so I'm not disappointed but I'm starting to get excited.

We should strive for a disciplined team but leave the door open to give some of theses guys a second chance.
