TexGator
Thoughts on HS All-American Herschel Sims transferring to Lamar (he was a true freshman last year, so 3 years of eligibility left)? Scout.com - #5 among RB, #6 player in Texas Rivals.com - #2 AP back, #8 in Texas, #73 overall First-Team DCTF SuperTeam First Team AP All-State as junior, 5A Offensive POY as a senior SuperPrep - Elite 50 (#39) US Army All-American BUT, was kicked off the Oklahoma State team last week for, allegedly, stealing from a teammate and racking up $700 in charges. Many say that teammates will forgive anything outside the locker room, but no transgressions in it. So, y'all's thoughts?

Thoughts on HS All-American Herschel Sims transferring to Lamar (he was a true freshman last year, so 3 years of eligibility left)? My thoughts are Im sure the staff is aware and if you can pry him away from Abeline Christian then bring him on. Maybe he's buddies with a couple of his former teammates that will be in Beaumont next season. Im sure KJ could either put a good or bad word in for him. Knightman
Is it official that Herschel is transferring to Lamar? That would be a huge pick-up for Coach Woodard and the staff!!!!!!!! Go Cards!!!!!!!!!! Knightman
Guest CardAmbassador
The reason we signed so many RB's is because all these young guys knew they would have a pretty fair shot at coming in and playing right away. I would rather give them a shot. RB for the first time in our short history is not a need. We signed like 3 and we have 3 or so on campus now. Lets get this group on the field with guys they trust this year and see if it makes a difference.

coachacola
One of the OSU forums has a lot of people saying he'll go JUCO for one year then transfer to Baylor.
Guest LU 17
Baylor can have him. Maybe they can help him see the light and use his sticky fingers for holding on to the football.
Guest bigred360
I have a dear friend who is a Baylor alumnus and crazy about their football program but they can have this dude. That is no a good locker room situation and they can have him after a year of juco ball. Like CA and others I'll pass on this guy.

TexGator
Sounds like Sims took it, his teammate found out (either through Sims admitting it and promising to pay him back, looking at this account activity, or trying to buy something and being told he had no money available), gave Sims a chance to pay him back, and then went to the authorities when Sims was unable to do so before the end of the semester. I was a broke college student once, so I can understand the desperation to have a few bucks for gas or weekend food at Kroger. If it wasn't a malicious act, I hope he doesn't get jail time and can grow from this. It is funny, though, how stealing $700 from someone could cost taxpayers about $150K, if the judge gives him the full seven years, if convicted. panchovilla
There's no desperation enough to steal money. Get a job and earn it. He deserves either community service to 2 years.

coachacola
There's no desperation enough to steal money. Get a job and earn it. He deserves either community service to 2 years. He'll probably end up paying back the money and getting some type of probation with community service. I bet he winds up at a JUCO next year. Woodard has already stated he'll only take transfers that fit a need and won't disrupt chemistry, I don't think Sims fits in either of those categories. Although stranger things can happen, I would be surprised if he would even give us a moments thought. He will wind up at another BCS school unless his baggage is so great that they can't touch him, and if that is the case then we are looking at another Oden/Campbell situation where he doesn't perform according to his ability and doesn't stay more than a year. Why go down that road. Get kids who have the work ethic, want to work hard and improve their play (not just rest on their talent), be a team player, and be here for the long haul. Mike
No, we don't need these type of issues. Sorry CA.....give me Herschel Sims all day long. I'm going to attempt to get some info on this today.
coachacola
Hopefully the charges will get dismissed. Obviously both Okafor and Johnson know him and probably wouldn't want him on the team if they didn't like him or couldn't trust him. Maybe Lamar will only accept Sims if the charges get dropped. Guest BigRed2010
I say yes, you definitely take a chance on this kid. No doubt. If this is true, may be a reason Mr. Washington decided to go to Navarro.

I was thinking the opposite. With Washington heading to Navarro maybe a scholarship opened up for Sims, especially for another running back. Also, like Okafor and Johnson, he'll also be a sophomore. Guest NorthoftheBorder
Talent wise, this kid is big time. If, like we had the debate about Oden, the kid can satisfy the coaches that he has turned a corner and can focus on school and football and be a good student athlete and role model, he could be lights out and provide options for the offense that could help LU turn the corner in football. I'm interested to see what you can dig up Mike!
