SFA Fan Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Take him! But Only if he wins his case or gets probation. Folks, this thread is just SILLY. Do you really think the top recruit will do time for forgery and theft? Think about it. Who is your stadium named after? A few phone calls, emails, or letters from a certain prestigious Law Firm will EASILY bring Beaumont legal influence to bear on Sims behalf across the Red River. Sims getting off is a done deal. Rest assured. Quote

Rest assured. It would be very unusual if anyone did time for the first offense of forgery and theft of $700. A deferred sentence is a likely possibility, if he pays back the money and court cost. Most people would be able to get a deal like that. I wouldn't expect any special treatment. Quote
Mike Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Is this even official yet? Tons of smoke and as I stated above my sources at Lamar are now even acknowledging this is likely going down but its not official yet. My bet is at some point today or tomorrow it will be announced. As always we'll post it here as soon as we hear anything official. Quote
coachacola Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 His court date is tomorrow so I would expect any official announcements to happen after that. I was comparing his Rivals profile to that of Tim Flanders of SHSU (who originally signed with K-State and spent a redshirt season there). They seem to be very similar players so I would expect Sims to have a big impact at Lamar like Flanders has at SHSU (if the offensive line can do their job). Flanders (3-stars, position rank # 31): [li]Ht:5'9"[/li] [li]Wt:191 lbs[/li] [li]40:4.4 secs[/li] [li]Bench Max:350[/li] [li]Squat Max:465[/li] [li]GPA:3.8[/li]Sims (4-stars, national rank # 73, position rank # 2): [li]Ht:5'10"[/li] [li]Wt:190 lbs[/li] [li]40:4.43 secs[/li] [li]GPA:3[/li] SHSU lists Flanders at 5'9, 208 lbs now, while OSU has Sims at 5'8, 204 lbs. Both Sims and Mossakowski were 4-star players out of HS, can't wait to see them both on the field this fall. Quote

Stud athletes are surely treated just like the general public. LOL! Too funny. This thread just went from silly to hilarious! LOL! Quote

I think the point is that Sims doesn't need any special treatment to get this reduced down. especially since this is the first time he's been in any kind of trouble. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 SFA Fan, if you have a lawyer friend just ask him, average joe's get deal's cut like this all the time. Especially when it's something like this where the defendant can just pay the person back the $700 dollars. I'm not saying athletes don't sometimes get special treatment but this isn't really a case that needs it. Also Umphrey doesn't care enough about Lamar football to do that. I wonder if he has been to a game since the first game first season. Quote

LUSportsFan Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 This is getting a little off topic, but I'm thankful as I am sure we all are of the support Mr. Umphrey and his wife have given to our university as well as Baylor. I'd be lucky to have a trash can named after me. :) Back on topic, it will be interesting what comes out of the court appearance tomorrow. Quote
Mike Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 this is nothing official but I'd personally be very surprised if Sims isn't a Lamar Cardinal as early as tomorrow. Quote
peckemtech11 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I thought he was having some legal problems. Quote
coachacola Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 A few tweets today: From Kelly Hines (whoever she is): Ex-#okstate RB Herschel Sims arraigned on felony 2nd-deg forgery charges. Announcement on setting/waiving prelim hearing continued to Aug 15 From Chris Dabe: A person in the Lamar records office said Herschel Sims is not yet enrolled at Lamar. #BEscores Quote
BigRed98 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Am I correct in thinking it will be at least the 15th before we hear anything about Sims? Quote

LAZEEK Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Sims will sign tomorrow. Got that from my source tonight. Quote
OldSchool Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Sims will sign tomorrow. Got that from my source tonight. I sure hope your right! This kid will be the game changer that LU needs. Everyone makes mistakes and I hope you guys give him a chance. Quote

Everyone makes mistakes and I hope you guys give him a chance. There's that word "mistake" that I hate. A mistake is taking a left turn when you were supposed to take a right. This kid didn't make a mistake. He made a very bad and costly choice that I hope he learns from. Unfortunatly this choice will follow him for the rest of his life. I hope he comes to Lamar and keeps clean does well in the classroom and dominates on the feild. Everybody makes bad choices sometimes, we just have to learn from them. I welcome him to Lamar and wish him the absolute best. Quote

Obvious that he did something wrong or he would not be talked about here. So right now we don't know if it's a bad choice or a mistake. I am a glass half empty and always hope for the best in people. I with you hope that he does well on and off the field and leaves his past where it is. Quote
Red Ryder Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 It doesn’t matter how gifted this young man may be, if the O-line isn’t significantly better even he won’t make a difference. Running backs don't have much of a chance when they are getting mauled 2-3 yards in the backfield as they are recieving the hand-off and don't even have an opportunity to start running. When the D-line is getting to the ball at the same time our running back is, it's not a good thing, I don't care what kind of talent you are. This happend WAY to much last year. I truely believe our last years running backs would have had much greater success if the O-line would have been even average. The O-line is the key to starting to have success. Quote
Austin Card Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Is it OK to start getting excited about our chances this year? Quote

Hopefully the hiring of McKnight will take care of this problem. The previous OL coach never played the position and had no OL coaching experience. McKnight has both. Even with the loss of Oden and Campbell they should be better up front Quote
QB 22 Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Cola can you explain why Woodard would have the previous guy coaching this position, boy he sure does some silly things. He better win this year or he will be getting the heat turned up. Quote
puddin tane Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 mistake :o bad choice :o going thru the express lane at market basket with too many items is a mistake.....buying a yugo is a bad choice.....the 'alleged' crimes are a fricking felony "aww, puddin, you did stuff when you were that age"...BS..i never stole money from my buds everybody is bending over backwards with political correctness--yes, he's innocent until proven guilty..if guilty..later gator...i think stealing from team mates speaks volumes about ones character...if he did indeed do it, we dont need him---LU is a college, not a halfway house for first time offenders Quote
QB 22 Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Go puddin go. If he didnt do it he would still be at osu. He was 3 team last yr and picked to be the same this yr. Quote
