Guest bigred360
Say what you want but this is a big signing because it's a position we were thin at and and I like his size and foot speed. 4.5 at that size is awesome!

Idk, the fact is he is going to be a Lamar Cardinal and he and his father have my full support....just sayin.
JJWooten
This guy has a lot of potential and he'll have 4 years of eligibility. Hard to pass on a guy like that. From what I've read he's grown a couple of inches and is faster and stronger since graduating high school. Should be interesting to see how he develops over the years. So he redshirted at a JUCO and then transferred? That seems strange for some reason. At least he'll have four years. I think that's Woodard's selling point to all his recruits. "Hey kids, we're a new program, come in and you can compete on Day 1." Then when kids come in and see that they probably won't get that time because of all the transfers, they leave the program (like Johnson and Tatum). I saw this in the BE article: While in high school, Barrett's team seldom won. But as a senior, he posted more than 2,000 all-purpose yards, his father said. "Dillon had absolutely no help from the offensive line or the coaching staff," said Byron Barrett, who played at Louisiana-Monroe and briefly in the NFL and USFL. Hopefully you can shore up the holes on the OL first, because even with some of those big transfers you had last year, there were some gaps. You need about 4 more of your Center to just let them play the rest of the line. That kid has some heart.
Guest CardAmbassador
Tatum was always at the bottom of the depth chart because the guys above him had more talent. We're going to sign a few juco and transfer players every year, that's how almost every team is. We did sign 16 Freshmen too. I would hardly say we're just loading up on transfers this year. If anything that was the case last year. Johnson, Oden and Campbell left after signing day meaning we're not going to sign HS players to replace them. Well, obviously, but you've got a bunch of churn in the program, at least at the core positions, which sounds like kids thought they were coming in to play and they get put on the bench. While I don't know JJ personally, I have a feeling that had to be a big reason for moving on to Blinn. The Moss kid looks good, this kid..... I dunno. I don't get your logic. First how has our quarterback situation been unique? Every DI school keeps about 4 or 5 guys at the QB position, that's exactly what we have had each year, no more no less. Also Berry had a great spring and in my opinion is probably not that far back from Mossakowski. Berry was also a redshirt freshman this year. He has not been here forever as you say. So he still has 3 years of eligibility if he transfers he will have to sit out. These are reasons why I don't understand Johnson's decision, JJ will go off to another school after burning another year in the lower levels and he will still only get signed (maybe) by a school with the exact same number of QB's on the depth chart. Except they will have been in the system longer. Think about it, you know I'm making sense here.
Guest Sam_Kats
Point proven on the Dad thinking he & his son are more than they are...who the Hell throws their son's team under the bus (they're kids too, right Ambassador?) for the sake of making excuses for his kid. Won't matter anyway. He red shirted @ a JUCO. Tebow??? Wow. 66-0 Oh, and happy Friday! 8)

Berry has to like that he was given the McNeese game with which to do what he can. Bevil wasn't hurt; they just wanted to see what changing it up would do. As far as I'm concerned, Berry performed well. Woodard has confidence in Berry, or he wouldn't be 2 on the depth chart. Being the #2 QB is not that far behind #1 (I mean that in a way even more than the literal separation between 1 and 2). If one thing happens to Mossakowski or Woodard feels it's time for Berry, he'll go in. The #2 on the depth chart is just as important as the #1. Guest CardAmbassador
I'm so very confused by this thread. We signed another QB that will probably not even play this year if the other 2 QB's stay healthy and for some reason this has turned into an argument about why we're signing more QB's and something about the guys dad. I don't understand how we got here. ???

Trust me, the Kats are not worried about a redshirted JUCO QB coming out a failing program in Louisiana. It's not a lot to get envious over. Now the kid from Kentucky..... top scout football
For the record critics! This kid did have D1 offers out of high school. The picture with Peyton and Eli Manning, only happens to 3 players of that camp, as MVP players, Barrett was a Blue Chipper, as a senior and the starting QB in the Louisiana all star game and ranked 6th in the Rivals and scout .com Louisiana ratings. He had well over 2500 total all purpose yards. His high school teammates loved him and he them! With NO tradition of winning there and a very bad fundamental coaching staff there, NO player could really help do anymore than they did do, for that very reason! It is what it is! He went to juco, because of wanting a better offer, than just any ole team. Well, Lamar is not just any ole team anymore! The have an awesome coaching staff, who are great recruiters and a load of players , who can and will compete for the teams best interest! As the 8th rated overall juco player in the country and the 3rd rated Qb in the country, by Rivals, you all, should say Hell yeah! Lamar is on the rise and fans should be fans! That means be positive and supportive! From a the standpoint of a scout, not a analyst! anyone can do that. GO BIG RED!!!
Guest CardAmbassador
Thanks for the information and defense of Barrett. For the record most of our fans were excited about the signing, for some reason a few fans from a Southland school felt the need to come over and trash the guy. I still can't explain it as this usually doesn't happen.
Guest Sam_Kats
Eh, still doesn't add up. It is surprising how the #3 rated JUCO QB in the country never saw the field. Saw where his JUCO lost to Blinn last year 65-18 so I'm guessing the coaches THERE were crappy too... And I don't know Woodard - but, whether it's good or bad, coaches are judged on their wins/losses & he's 0-4 to his in-state FCS counterparts & has been outscored 244-23. Maybe I'm missing something. And no one is "trashing" anyone. Just opinions being thrown around...cry wolf, if you'd like

Get over it, why do you care about our recruits? When was the last time someone from Lamar came to your site and started trashing your players? I don't think that ever happened. Guest Sam_Kats
Wow, that didn't take long to flame out. Oh, there's been quite a bit of crap talked on KF.com by LU fans but that's all part of it. There's no sense in getting panties wadded here....like I said, just my little ol' opinion. It shall be noted though, that most folks do not get defensive about the truth. Just saying. See y'all in late October.
