Guest NorthoftheBorder Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Like you said in an earlier post, Kevin Johnson looks the part. Hopefully he will have a big season along with the rest of the WR's. Quote
Mike Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 A few thoughts from Wednesday's (8/8) practice: 1. We will see a dramatic change in our running game this season. I know I'm not really reaching here but with the additions of Herschel Sims & Darrell Harris, the health of DePauldrick Garrett, and another year of work from the returning Mike Venson and Caleb Harmon the running game should be a strength in 2012. Harris was solid again last night and I feel pretty confident will contribute as a freshman. 2. There was a lot of special teams work last night. The team did drills from kickoff coverage to punt blocking to the basics of field goal kicking. It's obvious that the play of the special teams has been a concern and focal point for the staff. 3. They weren't in full pads but the intensity was still high last night. During many of the O vs D running drills the defense tackled the RB, I even saw one of the QB's get knocked down. These guys should be fun to watch get after it in full pads tonight. 4. As I mentioned in the OLine thread I think these guys will be ready by the time the season arrives. There were good and bad moments last night but it's to be expected at the 3rd practice. Once starters are named and established and the guys get in game shape this unit should be fine. I have full confidence in Coach McKnight's ability to coach these guys up into a strength of the team. 5. Another position of strength for this team will be the tight ends. Everytime I looked up it seemed Soto, Ploch or Hanna was making a play for the offense. We already saw what McVey was capable of last season so when he gets fully involved that'll a lot of weapons for Coach Kueck to utilitze. Quote
Mike Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 I'm headed to practice again tonight, the first night in full pads. I'm dragging our old friend Fred Davis with me. May have some interviews posted tonight when it ends. Don't forget to follow on twitter at www.twitter.com/bigredinsider! Quote

Guest NorthoftheBorder Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 At practice tonight. I think we have most of the pieces of the puzzle are there, just need to get some experience and for the new coaches to "coach them up"!!!! Looking forward to see how these guys progress. My thoughts are: Strengths - RB's & LB's & TE's Potential improved areas - DB's & DL Potential Push - WR's Question Mark's - QB & OL Quote
panchovilla Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 why are there question marks at QB? is mossakowski not showing his potential? Quote
Mike Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 why are there question marks at QB? is mossakowski not showing his potential? Mossakowski will be the starter barring an injury IMO. Here's the Fred's interview with Coach Woodard after practice tonight. I'll provide some thoughts tomorrow. Quote
Guest NorthoftheBorder Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 why are there question marks at QB? is mossakowski not showing his potential? Because they only have 1 game (Berry) of college experience between them. Quote
