coachacola
At just 5-feet-5 and 130 pounds, VanLawrance Franks is the smallest player on the Lamar University football team. However, the senior from Austin managed to play huge last year as the Cardinals' primary kick returner. Franks took over the starting return duties last year and finished as the sixth-best return man in the Southland Conference at 23.2 yards per return. Franks had a long return of 63 yards last year against Central Arkansas and will look to continue his success in his final year. "I was waiting to take that starting role," said Franks. "I'm just a competitor so once I had that opportunity; I wanted to make the best of it." Franks is able to learn under new special teams coach Dennis McKnight, a veteran of 11 NFL seasons who brings a wealth of knowledge to the kicking game. McKnight, who also coaches the offensive linemen for Lamar, has served as special teams coordinator at both SMU and Hawaii.
