Lamar has more depth at running back

Among the bigger improvements for Lamar football this season is the potential depth among running backs. The Cardinals have enough players at that position to move the leading rusher from 2011 (Mike Venson) to defensive back.

 

With Garrett (West Orange-Stark) healthy and the addition of Oklahoma State transfer Herschel Sims, Lamar thinks it could have a strong one-two rushing combination. But the run game does not stop with those two.

 

Harmon (Port Neches-Groves) is a redshirt sophomore who is a power back and could be a blocker in two-back sets, and true freshmen Darrell Harris and Desmond Richards have shown promise, Woodard said.

 

"Those five guys, they've really made us deep," Woodard said. "And we feel really good about all five of those guys."
