Another update from the "In the Cards" blog:

Jacody Coleman will move to linebacker when the Lamar University football team opens practice at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, coach Ray Woodard said Tuesday.

Coleman, a right defensive end last season, will play strong-side linebacker and occasionally move to defensive end in certain situations.

“He’ll drop down and help us against four-wide teams and third downs and rushing the ball,” Woodard said. “We’re just trying to utilize him a little bit more.”

The move puts Darby Jackson at right defensive end and elevates Jesse Dickson to starting left defensive end, Woodard said. Asim Hicks, a strong-side linebacker last season, will play all three linebacker positions, Woodard said.

Lamar can put a bigger defensive lineup on the field by putting the 6-foot-3, 250-pound Coleman at linebacker.
