September 7, 201213 yr From the Lamar Athletics Facebook page: Less than 2,000 tickets remain for tomorrow's 7 p.m. #LUFootball game against Prairie View A&M. Over 4,000 student tickets have already been distributed to watch the 2012 home opener at Provost Umphrey Stadium.

September 8, 201213 yr This is a football area, but you gotta win. there is no doubt in my mind that if we become a consistant winner, we can pack the house. Hell if we compete hard against FBS schools we could expand the stadium and still fill it. Key is WIN!!!! Cplatt
September 8, 201213 yr When I went and got my ticket on Tuesday, the line was out of the Montange and down the sidewalk aways. It's really great to see the support of the students for this team. Can't wait till tomorrow!

Can't wait till tomorrow! That is good news. Back in the olden days, our fraternity used to spend the night to get tickets to the men's basketball games so we could get on the first few rows and raise ten kinds of hell. It was a lot of fun. BTW, I am NOT a Jim Valvano fan but the quote you have is great.
September 8, 201213 yr I walked down to the Montange Center tailgate area and talked to one of the police down there and he said that he was told that the game was completley sold out and he couldn't let anybody into the ticket office untill 3:30 when people can go in for will call.

Lamar does have the advantage over schools in smaller areas in that they will draw a large walk-up crowd depending on the opponent, how well they are doing, season openers, etc. Having a large number of season tickets sold probably does make it easier the the athletic department to budget, but a large walk-up crowd means less empty seats than season ticket holders who stay home.
