Few Hawaii game nuggets (game now televised locally)

- The team leaves Thursday for Hawaii and after they arrive and get settled in they'll attend a luau and visit Pearl Harbor. As he mentioned in his press conference Coach Woodard said this is a business trip but they aren't going to deny the kids the opportunity to have a little fun on the island. He feels everyone should visit Pearl Harbor. I'm sure they can turn the visit into a team building exercise.

-LU will be taking 60 players on the trip to Hawaii

- Players that we asked about travelling with team due to health reasons: Payden McVey, Blake Chavis & Jordan Garrett all will be making the trip. This is good news because none of the three suited out last week vs Prairie View A&M. There are no surprises being left at home this week.

- the staff will leave last weeks lineup on the offensive line in tact barring injury. That means Gillam and Wempa back at center and left guard

- As mentioned on this forum a deal was struck to show the game live locally on Fox 4 with kickoff set at 11:00PM our time Saturday night. Thanks to "coastalman" and the guys at Fox 4 for getting this done.

- Coach Woodard told me that the guys in Hawaii showed the video of his press conference this week and had a good chuckle about it. Maybe they'll take his fun attitude towards the trip as a false sign of this team not showing up ready to play football and take the Cards a little lightly. :)

- The team returns back to Beaumont Monday morning and will begin their preparations for next weeks home game versus Langston.

Hawaii Team Notes

KEYS TO THE GAME: The first half of the game should be a good indication as to whether Hawaii coach Norm Chow has his players buying into his system. The Warriors will have had two weeks to prepare for Lamar after playing well in the second half of their 49-10 loss at USC on Sept. 1. They were outscored by only 14-10 after intermission. Hawaii will play a Lamar team that was without a football program as recently as 2009. If the Warriors come out focused and not overconfident, all phases of the game should take care of themselves against Lamar.

Christopher Dabe@cmdabe Ray Woodard said about 100 Lamar fans are at the team hotel, so LU will have a small base of fans at the game Saturday.

Woodard said players enjoyed luau and Pearl Harbor. Now time to get refocused on game, he said. Practice starts in couple minutes.

Woodard began and ended the phone conversation by saying "Aloha." Here's a pic from Monday: http://twitpic.com/aum5yn
