Guest LU 17 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Uh oh....SHSU loses to UCA...what's going on here? Quote
Guest bossman73 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 we need to throw the ball down the field NOT 5 yard passes. moss needs to put more zing on the pass.need to still get rid of the ball quicker. O-line please get MAD and put the D-line on their ASS!! play angry it works. punt return guy almost drop another. keep working on special teams. NOW for the D you guys looking bahhhhh. i know you held langston to 0 points good job but step it up next week. one more thing OC thow the ball down the field please!! DC middle of the field was aways open and the qb could run at will!!! Quote
BigNasty92 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I'm baffled by all of the short passes. The only time I've seen something similar is when David Carr was with the Texans. It seemed to me then, that they did that because they didn't have confidence in Carr's ability to throw down field. After seeing Moss struggle the couple of times he threw down field, I'm starting to think that might be why they are keeping them short. I hope that's not the case. It sure becomes pretty predictable and easy for the defense to shut it down. Quote

Guest LU 17 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 When we were getting destroyed by the FBS schools, Soto seemed to be a bright spot. I'm curious why we didn't throw any thing his was last night. IMO he could be an offensive weapon. Quote
Guest eagle eye Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I saw the game and I was impressed in some ways and in some not so much. The good; > Mossikowski looked much better tonight. The long ball to Kevin Johnson in the 1st half for the TD was sweet. His stats would have been better had Johnson no had at least three drops in the first half. > The Cards got a lot of good mileage out of the WR bubble screens. Especially, when they went to VanLawrence Franks. > The defense was pretty darn good. How can anyone complain about a shutout? Langston QB James Kilpatrick did a good job of finding his receivers who were equally as good finding the open spots in the Lamar zone defense. The telling thing was Langston couldn't get much mileage in runs after the catch. Lamar played bend but don't break type of D and they were able to force turnovers. > Special teams were much better. They blocked a field goal. They partially blocked a punt and there were no serious mistakes in the return game. Kevin Johnson started the game with a huge run back of the opening kickoff and for the most part Mike Venson was solid fielding punts. > O-line was better. > Lamar didn't run that great but they stuck with their game plan to keep the defense honest. The No-so-good; > The Cards were not able to run the ball effectively most of the game. At first I thought I might blame the O-line but I started to look closer and Langston played 8 and 9 players in the box. Nobody is going to run on a front like that. I think that's why Lamar used the quick screen passes to offset the pressure Langston was putting on Moss. The 25 yard run by Herschel Sims in the second half came when Langston had backed off and only had 7 in the box. > I was worried about WR Kevin Johnson in the first half. Yes, he had the great return on the opening kickoff and he caught the long TD pass to give the Cards a 14-0 lead but he also had some very blatant drops. One of the drops can be credited to a good defensive play but the others were WTF moments on third down that stalled drives. Mossikowski actually had to go to Barry Ford who didn't drop anything. In fact he had a very nice catch on a third and long in the first half. > The announcers on the Fox 4 telecast were not very good. I hate to be critical but they didn't seem to be watching the same game I was. James Ware's sideline reports were good. Good effort tonight. Quote
puddin tane Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 LU needs to pick it up, or SELA will kick our butts......7 punts...against Langston...not good Quote
puddin tane Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 to hell with it...gotta say it, even if its after a 31-0 win Lu looked like a last place SLC team..we barely had 300 yards total offense...14 first downs.. for those of you who care about rushing......both St.Xavier and ArkansasPine Bluff both ran the ball better against Langston than Lamar did. Quote
puddin tane Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 and another thing...you wanna have a classy program...sell up to date programs...maybe even include the other team's roster and 1.00 drinks and hotdogs?..oops , not at the concession stand.."somewhere down there" was what i was told... crap like that pisses me off.............. dirtybird Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 yep , I got had on the dollar dogs too. I thaught the freshman running back , Desman Richards did well . Only had 3 carries at end of game, but 2 of those were for about 15 yards each. I also think there are a few freshmen linemen who can get it done. i also wonder why Sotto didnt get any passes last night. Quote
Guest LU 17 Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Yep, was also looking for dollar anything, instead I got a 2 dollar snickers and a 3 dollar small drink. What a steal. I don't mind paying for over priced stadium food, but don't advertise dollar dogs or drinks. Quote

Not impressed with this effort. I don't care how vanilla the scheme was, you should not punt 7 times vs a bad NAIA team. O Line is bad. Wasn't McKnight supposed to change the oline and special teams play? Those have been the two worst units we have. Quote
cardinal Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 What is the deal with McVey? Play him!!!! Throw him the damn ball!!! And ditto on throwing th ball down the field!! And yes, I am not impressed with Sims thus far? Can he make anyone miss? And Chavis needs to warm the pine. Quote
LU1991 Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 I hate to complain after a 31-0 win but we didn't have any offensive rhythm or consistency thought out the game. I'm hoping it was jet lag but we will not win many games in the SLC if we continue to play like this. Does anyone know why McVey is not playing? Why we didn't throw to Soto either? Saving them for conference play??? Go Cards!!! Quote
OhYeWut Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 A little off subject and not knocking LU here, just wanting someone who may know the reasoning by FOX4. I am honestly just trying to understand why FOX4 decided to show the Lamar game over a Nationally Televised game between two top 15 teams (OU vs KSU)? On top of that, the Lamar game was not even in HD, so the quality was no better than my video camera at a JV game. Not that anyone was watching. The way I see it is, if you can't get them to go to the acutal game, then why show the lower level anyway? Typical SETX way of thinking. Very poor judgement. Congrats to Lamar on the win though. A win is a win. Quote
coachacola Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Last I heard about McVey is that he's still hurt and they are not going to rush him back. I don't remember what his injury was but it happened before the season started. Both Soto and Garrett didn't play and they both normally play a lot. I think Garrett was in the coaches' doghouse, that's why he didn't play. After getting blown out at Hawaii then coming back to play a NAIA team, I'm actually surprised Lamar shut them out. I'm not surprised they looked sluggish, they made some simple mistakes and dropped some easy passes. Langston focused on shutting down the run with 7 guys up front. I would think Lamar was using the game to practice on basic stuff, and they did throw a lot more and threw deeper passes. Mike Venson bobbled another punt and was lucky it bounced back to him. Maybe it's time to replace him. We saw Kevin Johnson returning kickoffs and looked impressive, can he return punts too? He can't do it all, others need to step up. And I'll state the obvious: the o-line is the weak link!! Not sure how much they can improve this year. Quote
Guest NorthoftheBorder Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 I was at the game and I saw Soto on the field but they did not throw to him. McVey's number on the roster is 88. I saw a #88 go onto the field on offense several times in the second half. Quote

Seriously? The best we can come up with is a folding table? And what about a microphone so we can actually hear him? Wow. Quote

And I'll state the obvious: the o-line is the weak link!! Not sure how much they can improve this year. ??? Soto played, and so did McVey. But it seems that Soto is the starter for some reason? McVey made some really nice catches last year and I was expecting him to have a very good year. I know he was hurt but it seems like Soto is now the starter? Soto is bigger but McVey is a bit quicker. I was not surprised by the shutout. Believe it or not, I thought the defense actually played pretty good against Hawaii. They were just constantly on the field and constanly put in bad situations in that game. Mike Venson shouldn't be returning punts anymore. Honestly, I was shocked he was still there after the Hawaii game. I guess he's going to have to cost us a couple of more games before the coaches figure it out? Quote
coachacola Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 I watched the first half of the game and I don't remember seeing Soto in the game. At 6-8 he's hard to miss. But I still think the coaches treated this game a little like a scrimmage because they are still learning a new offense. Quote
LamarAlum Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Where is the big kid P J Henderson 6/3 225 who transferred in and is a 3 star rival? I heard he was penciled in to start, because of his speed and size. Doesn't make sense not to be using all the teams assets. Quote
puddin tane Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 who pissed in my cheerios?...the lady at the bogus 1.00 drink/dog promo...after waiting in line at the concession stand only to be told "not here, down there somewhere" I figured..31-0, be positive..but damn..all the punts, the crappy offensive production...all the drops by the rec..especially johnson's multiple drops.... I heard he was penciled in to start, because of his speed and size. Doesn't make sense not to be using all the teams assets. He was on the team last year and played in a few games. Rivals gave him 2-stars as a WR out of high school but signed with Jackson State. I don't think he was ever penciled in as a starter. Quote
LamarAlum Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Why isn't he playing? With his size and speed we should be able to use him in several positions. I looked at the Roster and didn't see many guys ranked by rivals so it looks like there should be somewhere we can use him. Quote
