Guys/Gals, with rival Sam Houston State coming to Beaumont this week we've communicated with katfans.com administrator Tim Jeske about doing a Q/A session here us, so post any questions about the SHSU football team & their matchup this week with the Cards on here and he'll attempt to get them answered.

He's agreed to do this for us so lets keep the questions legit & respectable!

I'll start.

How big an impact do you feel losing LB Darius Taylor will have on this game?

BRI, Thanks for having me this week. I look forward to a great match up on Saturday!

There is no doubt anytime you lose your teams second leading tackler you will suffer a little. Darius accounted for 45 tackles this season second to his brother Darnell with 56. Darius is a major force in stopping the run and is key to the Bearkat D holding opponents to limited rushing yards. However, this week it doesn't concern me as much and I'll explain why. Lamar's leading rusher Sims has 388 yards on the season and he is rumored to be hurt (you know more about that). The second best rusher has almost as much as Sims with 332 yards. This is not meant to be a slam on Lamar but I just don't see a major rushing attack in Lamar. Filling the gap in the Bearkat D will be Jeremy Jackson a 6'0" 215lb sophomore from Bellville. I would also look for Missouri LB transfer Brandon Durant to get some playing time as well.

how does this years bearkat team compare overall to last seasons runner-up squad? thanks for the answer.

This years team is not the same as last years and I think Sam Houston fans who were comparing the two earlier in the season were disappointed. The talent is the same but our offensive scheme is different. Last season we ran right by everyone and it was successful, this year everyone knows what the running game is. We have a new OC who mixes the game up, we can now throw the ball for a TD just as easy as we can run it for one. It took awhile to get adjusted but the Kats are coming on strong and are beginning to look like last years team on the field.

How has the new offensive coordinator for SHSU changed the offense from last year?

Last season we ran the the ball out of many different sets about 70% of the time only throwing when we needed to. This season we are more balanced with a 50/50 mix. This is beginning to show its fruits as defenses not only have to prepare to the run attack they now have to respect the passing game. This keeps a defense from loading the box as much and opens the run game. Sincere was returning from an injury earlier in the season and was only at 80%. He is now healthy and we are beginning to see the Wild-Bearkat be successful with Sincere having big games the past weeks. It has taken time to get adjusted to but the Bearkat O is starting to click and I think we are positioned well to make a run.

what did central arkansas do to slow down sam houston and win the game?would another loss keep sam from getting an at-large bid ?

Central Arkansas played a flawless game in the second half and the cards fell their way. The Kats got up early and became complacent allowing the Bears to roar back and pull the game out. I don't know if it was what UCA did as much as it was what Sam Houston didn't do. We have seemed to turned a corner and have kept the foot on the gas all four quarters.

No team has ever made the playoffs with less than 7 D-1 wins. If we lose another game besides the A&M game we will not have 7 D-1 wins. So is it possible if we lose? Yes, has it happened before? No, Will it happen this year? Probably not. It's easy if the Kat's win out in the SLC we are in, if we lose we are done.

I don't expect the Kats to lose any other game but the A&M game, that said anything can happen.

what if anything do you think Lamar can do to keep this game close? as a bearkat guy do you think we have any shot at all at an upset being were at home?

Anything can happen on any Saturday. If you look on paper Sam Houston shouldn't have a problem with Lamar, but the game is played on the turf not paper. If the Kats come out flat and Lamar plays inspired football I can see an upset happening. Talking with Sam Houston players I don't see it happening though, they aren't taking Lamar lightly.
