johnmartin23 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 So I thought I'd do a composite list of all of our new recruits. I don't have stats for all of these guys, so I'll add them if I find them. Anyone mind telling me where we are getting the scholarship/roster space to bring in these guys? Davontae Bailey- 3-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN, and Yahoo Sports, plays SF in high school, likely to play as a guard at Lamar; 6'4", 185 lbs. Benquan Petty- 14.5 ppg, 8.2 apg at Cedar Valley College LeMon Gregory- 6'10", 255-lbs. center from Angelina College Dontavious Sears- 16.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 40% 3-pt FG% Zjori Bosha- Highly touted Hardin-Jefferson recruit and attendance booster Quan Jones- 41.6 FG%, 33.3 3-pt FG%, 76.2% FT% from Connors State College The Benquan Petty guy averaged 23 points 8.1 assist that's from his freshman year at Cedar Valley http://stats.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2013-14/div3/players/benquanpettyftml he's an All American this year Quote
Cardinal Nation Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Price is doing wonders with little to work with as in probation and knight running Lamar in to the ground i like what hes doing so far. Quote
baller Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 When we won the conference tournament we had a special player in Mike James.James was the mid-year player of the year in the Italian professional league. We beat McNeese that had a special player Pat Richard.Richard was just named the best small forward in the Netherlands professional league. Special players are invaluable when the shot clock gets under ten seconds and in the last two minutes. The attention they draw makes for more and easier shot opportunities for others. To be a champion you often have to have one or two special players.Let's hope we get a few next year.We were really fortunate Steve brought James sweet jumper here for two years. Cardinalrule Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Sounds great, but why would a young man from Alabama choose an offer from LU over an offer from UAB? Why not? Quote
TBonesLU Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Sounds great, but why would a young man from Alabama choose an offer from LU over an offer from UAB? Why not? +1 The same reason Woodard just got a guy from Lake Charles to play for Lamar: to get away from home. A lot of times the other offers aren't there either (which is the more prominent reason for the WR from Lake Charles). In this case, he may feel as though he wants to venture out and give a new locale a try. Quote
TBonesLU Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I sent Tic Price an e-mail a few days back congratulating him on the great recruiting class. He replied and thanked me for my support. I think we have a good coach who wants to do something good with this program. Don't get me wrong...I was probably the first to be in disbelief at the immediate hiring. He's proven me wrong with his recruiting ability. We shall wait and see how things pan out, but I think we can expect to be leaps and bounds better than we've been the past two years. Quote

He's proven me wrong with his recruiting ability. We shall wait and see how things pan out, but I think we can expect to be leaps and bounds better than we've been the past two years. Saying this with the clear understanding that everyone knows I was very vocal against Price's hiring, I caution you to take a wait and see approach as to how great this class is. Unless you were just born yesterday and have not had the distinct pleasure of following LU Basketball over the last 30 years (at least since Foster left) you would well know that every coach between Foster and Price have proclaimed "great" recruiting classes at LU (including Newell and Giovanine who coached against Price while he was at UNO). I think that the results of those "great" classes speak for themselves during that timeframe. Even though I was against the hiring, I still want LU to succeed wildly, and by default Price as well. I will take a cautious wait and see attitude!! Quote
