So I thought I'd do a composite list of all of our new recruits. I don't have stats for all of these guys, so I'll add them if I find them. Anyone mind telling me where we are getting the scholarship/roster space to bring in these guys?

Davontae Bailey- 3-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN, and Yahoo Sports, plays SF in high school, likely to play as a guard at Lamar; 6'4", 185 lbs.

Benquan Petty- 14.5 ppg, 8.2 apg at Cedar Valley College

LeMon Gregory- 6'10", 255-lbs. center from Angelina College

Dontavious Sears- 16.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 40% 3-pt FG%

Zjori Bosha- Highly touted Hardin-Jefferson recruit and attendance booster

Quan Jones- 41.6 FG%, 33.3 3-pt FG%, 76.2% FT% from Connors State College

The Benquan Petty guy averaged 23 points 8.1 assist that's from his freshman year at Cedar Valley http://stats.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2013-14/div3/players/benquanpettyftml he's an All American this year

When we won the conference tournament we had a special player in Mike James.James was the mid-year player of the year in the Italian professional league. We beat McNeese that had a special player Pat Richard.Richard was just named the best small forward in the Netherlands professional league. Special players are invaluable when the shot clock gets under ten seconds and in the last two minutes. The attention they draw makes for more and easier shot opportunities for others. To be a champion you often have to have one or two special players.Let's hope we get a few next year.We were really fortunate Steve brought James sweet jumper here for two years.

@melgru24: D-1 Lamar University Offers Scholarship to AVC

Is BRI experiencing technical difficulties?...will not display my entire post

Anyway 6'9" post Zach Hollis from Antelope Valley College received an offer...does this mean even more transfers than we already expected?

If you are pasting something into your post, it might be certain characters causing some of your post to disappear. Your paste from and including the offending character will disappear when you post your message. If I recall correctly, the preview mode will show everything you want. (Preview is just fooling you.) :)

I've found that deleting the offending characters and retyping them BEFORE SUBMITTING will solve the problem.

The one that gets me most often is the single quote or apostrophe. There are some others that catch me less frequently. The problem is ALWAYS with non-alphabetic characters.

Single quote or apostrophe '

I usually edit the following also

There may be some others. If it happens, just repaste and edit.

@melgru24: D-1 Lamar University Offers Scholarship to AVC's Zack Hollis http://t.co/6uW7m7BkeW via @wordpressdotcom

And this was posted as well

@Eric_L_Smith: #AVC sophomore center Zach Hollis will sign with D-1 Lamar University later today. Averaged 6 ppg and 4 rbg for Marauders this year.

Signed 2 big guys who have similar, less than impressive numbers coming in (LeMon Gregory averaged 7 points and 5 boards per game at Angelina)

Raise the over-signing number to four. RT @Eric_L_Smith #AVC sophomore center Zach Hollis will sign with D-1 Lamar University later today

7 new players:

Zach Hollis - 6'9" center, averaged 6 ppg and 4 rbg at Antelope Valley College

Davontae Bailey- 6'4" guard (played PG at Prime Prep), 3-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN, and Yahoo Sports

Benquan Petty- 14.5 ppg, 8.2 apg at Cedar Valley College

LeMon Gregory- 6'10", 255-lbs. center from Angelina College

Dontavious Sears- 6'5" shooting guard, 16.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 40% 3-pt FG% at Eastern Oklahoma State College

Zjori Bosha- Highly touted Hardin-Jefferson recruit and attendance booster

Quan Jones- 6'3" PG, 41.6 FG%, 33.3 3-pt FG%, 76.2% FT%, from Connors State College

Departing players:

Amos Wilson

Nimrod Hilliard

Rhon Mitchell

Octavius Green

4 scholarship players leaving, 6 scholarship players coming in (Bosha will walk-on), so a couple more players must be leaving the team. I'm guessing a couple of bench players may be leaving.

Looks that way. We can all speculate as to who it may be. I'm more and more interested to see who will end up on the roster come Fall '14.

Coachacola, any way we can put this at the front of the thread as well so as to add/change anything as it comes to our knowledge?

Sounds great, but why would a young man from Alabama choose an offer from LU over an offer from UAB?

Why not?

+1 The same reason Woodard just got a guy from Lake Charles to play for Lamar: to get away from home. A lot of times the other offers aren't there either (which is the more prominent reason for the WR from Lake Charles). In this case, he may feel as though he wants to venture out and give a new locale a try.

I sent Tic Price an e-mail a few days back congratulating him on the great recruiting class. He replied and thanked me for my support. I think we have a good coach who wants to do something good with this program. Don't get me wrong...I was probably the first to be in disbelief at the immediate hiring. He's proven me wrong with his recruiting ability. We shall wait and see how things pan out, but I think we can expect to be leaps and bounds better than we've been the past two years.

Saying this with the clear understanding that everyone knows I was very vocal against Price's hiring, I caution you to take a wait and see approach as to how great this class is. Unless you were just born yesterday and have not had the distinct pleasure of following LU Basketball over the last 30 years (at least since Foster left) you would well know that every coach between Foster and Price have proclaimed "great" recruiting classes at LU (including Newell and Giovanine who coached against Price while he was at UNO). I think that the results of those "great" classes speak for themselves during that timeframe. Even though I was against the hiring, I still want LU to succeed wildly, and by default Price as well. I will take a cautious wait and see attitude!!
