  1. Looks as if Lamar will get new field turf, more than likely after this season per Schultz.

My initial thought was "already", but then realized it was put down in 2009 and most plastic fields in outdoor stadiums last about 12 years. Most come with a 10 year usable life guarantee. I wonder who is paying for it. Wouldn't be surprised to see the current turf used in a new indoor practice facility.

  2. A synopsis of the 20 signees so far:

Defensive backs: 6 JUCO, 1 HS, Total =7

    Offensive linemen: 1 JUCO, 3 HS, Total = 4

    Wide Receivers: 3 JUCO, 0 HS, Total = 3

    Defensive Linemen: 2 JUCO, 0 HS, Total = 2

    Linebackers: 2 JUCO, 0 HS, Total = 2

    Quarterbacks: 1 Transfer, 1 HS, Total = 2

    Running Backs: 0

    Tight Ends: 0

    Total JUCO Players = 14

    Total HS Players = 5

    Total Transfers = 1

  3. Well, Cards fall by 11. Terrible shooting in the 2nd half, 29%. and Franklin for ACU leads all scorers with 22 points, 20 of those points in the 2nd half. Lamar was out shot, out hustled, & out coached in the 2nd half.

On to the airplane hanger at Northeestern State on Saturday.

  4. Press Conference...

    A few notes:

New turf coming in a year or two.

Still eyeing some FBS transfers but not at liberty to say.

    Also looking at more receivers.

Should have new OC in a few days. Schultz said since he's so involved in the offense it wasn't a priority to get a new OC that quickly. Looking for someone to do the play-calling.

A few surprises in the 20 signees. More than a few JUCO players (14). Also Wells (DB) from Beaumont United was not mentioned even though he was listed as a recent commit. Definitely concentrated on needs and size.

  5. This weeks RPI Poll for women's basketball has SFA easing past Lamar. Both teams are currently undefeated in the SLC.

    Women's Rankings:

    63 - SFA

    69 - Lamar

    160 - ACU

    184 - Nicholls

    205 - SHSU

    256 - TAMU-CC

    272 - SELa

    291 - CArk

    312 - New Orleans

    314 - McNeese

    325 - IWU

    336 - NwSt

    340 - HBU

    The men's rankings:

    136 - ACU

    166 - SHSU

    234 - SFA

    249 - New Orleans

264 - LAMAR Lamar moved up from 302 this week

    273 - CArk

    278 - TAMU-CC

    292 - HBU

    295 - SELa

    316 - Nicholls

    318 - NwSt

    322 - McNeese

    343 - IWU

  6. Both Lamar men’s and women’s basketball teams eked out close wins at Lake Chuck against McNeese. Women won a close game 64-62, against the Cowgirls and some very questionable SLC officiating to stay undefeated in conference.

LU men also won in a close game 84-75 with a great game from Christian Barrett. Lamar men have now won 3 of the last 4, but will be playing upper echelon teams in the next 3 weeks.

  7. Adeyi is an interesting case. He initially committed to Houston in September and signed with them in the December signing period. Then he “decommitted” from Houston last week. I used “ “ cause since he was signed, the school would have to sign off on releasing him from his letter of intent. Then he gets an offer from SFA and SHSU, then he posts on twitter that he has been released from his LOI and gets an offer from Lamar. Normal NCAA transfer rules should still be in place since he signed a LOI with Houston meaning he could be eligible immediately at the FCS level but would have to sit out a year at the FBS level. This happened with a high profile player this year in 5-Star WR Bru McCoy. Committed to USC and even enrolled early. His 1st day on campus was the day it was announced new USC OC Kliff Kingsbury (who was a big part in McCoy signing with USC) would be new Arizona Cardinals HC. McCoy then opted to transfer to Texas. What a world we live in...

Interesting, hope we can land him over SHSU or SFA. We could use his speed at wide receiver and kick returns.

  8. Another big stat was free throws. Lamar attempted 27 FTs and Nicholls only shot 4. With a 24 made FTs Lamar had a 20 point advantage on FTs alone. Lamar dominated the paint with Barrett and Nzeakor playing a complete game.
  9. I realize we still have a mathematical chance to get to Katy, but realistically I think I've given up hope with this team. They can't win on the road and struggle at home. Not sure what would cause any change and turn it around. Maybe wins at Nicholls and McNeese will turn it around?
  10. This weeks Women's RPI Rankings:

    62 - Lamar - won 2 games but slipped 2 spots

65 - SFA - won 1 game last week and moved up 21 spots

As far as the men's rankings:

ACU is the highest ranking SLC team at 143 (no change from last week), SHSU improved 2 spots to 185, Lamar stayed at 302, IWU is still ranked as the 8th worst team in Division 1.

  11. To put this game into perspective, Incarnate Word’s RPI ranking is 342, 8th worst in Division 1 basketball. Lamar has to go to OT at home to beat them - pathetic. Plus IWU played mostly freshman and sophomores, so their program is building, ours is going the other direction.
  12. I think we need to stop the scoreboard advertising about the SLC Basketball Tournament in Katy during the men's home games. And I'm sick and tired of the "we really lost to a good team, they are much better than their record " excuse after losing to the bottom feeders in the conference. There is obviously a problem with mental toughness and coaching when you can't win the games you should.
  13. Men try to notch another in the win column, but on the road. The Lions have only 4 wins and should be a fairly easy win, but Lamar needs to be intense and get out to a big win. I say Cards win in OT.
