sleepy Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Last night while watching the news there was an interview with Pat Knight. He said he was sick of hearing fans complain and don't come if they don't like it. This guy thinks he is bigger and better than Lamar when you say something like this. Lamar has never had a coach act like this towards the fans. When you have won 5 games in 2 years you should expect criticism and take alot better than he is. Completely ridiculous for anyone to tell the few fans that are coming basically not to come if they don't like it. Unheard of!!!!! Quote
Redbirds Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I saw that as well sleepy. I have decided that he wants to be fired. No coach would say that. Quote
Cplatt Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 This is pathetic, he put Lamar in a hole that will take years to get out of. By the looks of it Pat, they arent coming to the game so dont worry. God awfull Cplatt Quote
lu cards Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 pat knight should kiss every ass that comes to watch his crappy teams.pat knight has proved he can coach someone else players but has done jack squat since.i liked the guy but if he's gonna get an attitude when he is losing games at a record pace he's lost his mind.i expect him to resign and drop lamar in the grease at the end of the season. AggiesAreWe Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 People are not going to come to the games because you are 4-41 over the last season and a half, Pat. I had planned on making tonight's game as well as Saturday's game, but I think I'll stay at home and watch a middle school game tonight and play poker at the boat Saturday night. ::) Quote
Austincard Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 WOW! This is going well so far. I see what he is doing: He is throwing the fans under the bus so that we will respond and now we are going to make the tourney. Genius! Quote

Bruce Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I've hit my breaking point as well. I've been holding back, as I really did think that the horrible overall record was partially a function of us playing a real schedule as opposed to the four-games-against-NAIA-crap we did for years that would make a team that should be 1-12 have a 5-8 or 6-7 record and not look so bad to the media/casual fan. And I do think we are better than last year--we will win some conference games. But I'm sorry: you are NOT going to win basketball games in 2013 shooting one 3 point shot in the first 30 goddamned minutes of a game. This isn't peach baskets and set shots, Pat. This isn't 1973. We're an undersized team and yet we're not even looking for three-point shots; hell, defenses don't even respect us at the perimeter because they know we're not going to shoot the ball. When it is a virtual certainty you're going to get outrebounded and give up extra opportunities in every game, it is vital that we manage to trade 3-for-2 on occasion. We don't even TRY. Instead, we end up taking 18-foot jumpers which are not going to win you games, especially since we're woefully undersized. And, unlike last year, there are a few significantly better shooters available to this team to take 3-pointers. As it turns out, that ESPN writer from the season preview was spot on. Knight won't let his team shoot threes. That'd be fine if we had two 6'-10" guys in the middle to grab second-chance opportunities and to throw the ball to over the top. We don't, and we're not going to get that type of player. We're in the Southland. Losing to Nicholls at home is not acceptable. Losing to UTPA anywhere is unacceptable. Losing to what is essentially a Division 2 team (Grand Canyon) is not acceptable. And, well, I don't need to mention 4-42. Before this, I was willing to consider giving Knight another year because basically he had made one (big) mistake: an awful 2012-13 recruiting class. And I think a coach deserves a mulligan, especially given the NCAA appearance in the first year. But now I'm seeing two things that I can't stand: the media and fan antagonism (Roc did the same crap, albeit in a different way, when his job started to be in jeopardy), and this fetish with not shooting the ball from the 3-point line. It's just not going to work in this day and age. I'll be out there supporting the team the rest of the year. But barring some kind of 10-conference-win miracle (which I seriously doubt, as I don't think Nicholls is very good, 3-0 start in the conference notwithstanding), the time will come at the end of the season to move on. Unbelievable. We've got a coach now who could win plenty of games if he could just get some decent talent; before that, we had a guy who could manage to finish 9th in the Southland with Top-3 talent in the conference. Can't we find anyone who can do a decent amount of competency in both recruiting and coaching?? I feel like I traded in the "angry and frustrated" attitude I had for Roc's time here for "exasperated and apathetic". Quote

LUFAN Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 We stink and he doesnt seem to have the fire to care. Knight has given up.. he either needs to quite or he needs to be canned. This is terrible... I love his scheduling... but that is it.. That needs to be a requirement of our next coaching staff... I bet like at tech his office is already cleaned out.. the guy has a history of giving up and his is doing it again... I had high hopes for him and thought he should be the guy but HE CANNOT RECRUIT. He should have been fired after last year's joke but I suppose the late season run from the year before has made him untouchable?? Look at how low he's drug the program!! I mean, he had a GOLDEN opportunity to get things really rolling after taking a team back to the NCAA tourney and this is how he's responded. This is a damn joke!! Quote

coachacola Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Massey Ratings has Lamar at 341 out of 351 D1 teams. They are still 10 notches from rock bottom!! Quote
austin badbyrd Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Watching the game last night I have come to the following conclusions 1. This team has major problems with decision making and ball control. 2. The team panics when things go south 3. Hillard is the best player on this team and even he is terribly inconsistent 4. Knight should have stayed in the trap zone longer - went out of it too soon 5. Absolutely no bench support 6. -and worst of all - this team doesn't know how to win; all the close losses prove this - way too many missed and blown opportunities. I don't think Knight will be fired before the end of the season, however IMHO - whoever takes over may need another 2 years to be close to competitive. Need size in the center/PF position, a consistent scorer, and some bench support - lots of bench support. This is not as bad as last year but it is still a bloody mess Quote
Vroo Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Just my two cents worth (not that my two cents is worth any more or less than anyone else's two cents). First off great win by the ladies against Nichols. Enjoyed the team effort and the ladies really look like they can d it up. Now on to the dark side of this message. I was completely disappointed in what I saw from the men following Thursdays loss (which shouldn't have come as a surprise). The things that stood out to me the most about this team and heck the men's program in general are 1) A complete and total lack of leadership. This starts at the top uninspired coaching leads to uninspired playing. 2) If we have uninspired COACHING and playing we have no, none, nada, zip, zilch, zero, inspiration in the stands. I think there were several points throughout the contest where you could have heard the Montaigne Center cockroaches fart in the gym. 3) There is more excitement from the band (and thank you band not calling you guys out) than the coach (PK, don't want to mention names and hurt his ego) who is supposed to inspire his team (pathetic, cough, cough). 4) Every fan who attended this basketball game could have had their own row. I don't think this is the players fault, I don't think this is the fans fault, it's definitely not the bands fault, so who could it be? Could it be Satan? As a faithful Lamar alumnus, and current Lamar student, I will support my school till the day that I leave this sphere. But this is painful and really sucks to watch as our once great b-ball school goes down in an apocalyptic, size of the earth, one of those Hollywood type meteoric flames. Please oh please can someone somewhere stop this bad man. I held off a day posting this cause I didn't want to sound to insincere. Oh well the men's team really sucks right now. Good job Lady Cards on Thursday's win. There is always next year right? Quote
geezer Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I hate to say this as I dislike playing lower classification teams but perhaps with all the new pieces both of the last two years LU should have played two or three D2 teams in the pre-conference portion of the season to learn the joy of winning. No excuses for the apparent inadequate talent as that is coaches job to get the players he or she needs, but perhaps before going to an all D1 schedule you should get the program on solid ground and be ready to win a number of D1 games early. Quote
BSFwins Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 geezer, I generally agree with the vast majority of your post. I disagree here. Competition makes a athlete, team better. Just like in practice, if you have a major challenge for starting positions and the fans debate as who should start and sometimes the coaches have a hard time. It only makes sense playing better teams would do the same for a team. I love Billy Tubbs and liked Roc but I hated the non DI teams on the schedule. You could have got more in a scrimmage. Do you think Joe Montana made Steve Young better? Because Young was a joke at Tampa Bay! Do you think there is a reason the SEC won all those BCS football national championships? Quote
