geezer Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Good game for the men. They played with a high level of energy the whole game, which may be the first time I have seen that all year. LU ran some different plays, kept the turnovers down and no one forced any shots early in the play clock. I will give Price credit, he is rewarding the guys that put forth the effort on defense according to what he said in the post game interview. His statement matched what I saw in the game as one of the usual regulars played very little. Quote
Cardinalrule Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Women win, men up by 20 at the half! Men win by 17 and you only get one post and now mine. You wanna know why? T-i-c P-r-i-c-e! Quote
geezer Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 The crowd was similar to the last several games under Knight as for numbers, so I am not surprised. It will take winning to get the interest back. Hopefully no matter who the coach is next year tonight is the turning point. Granted UNO is not one of the upper tier teams in the conference, but they beat us soundly over there. Quote
Lamar Pride Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Women win, men up by 20 at the half! Men win by 17 and you only get one post and now mine. You wanna know why? T-i-c P-r-i-c-e! Last night was a fun game to watch. The players played with energy throughout the game and it is obvious most are responding well to Tic Price. The offense is more uptempo and the defense is forcing a lot of turnovers. This is a complete reversal from the way things were going under Knight. The fans that attended were entertained and enthusiastic. The apathy you reference was not caused by Tic Price. It was caused by back to back terrible seasons under the former coach. The basketball postings on this board have declined to almost nothing this season. Winning solves that problem whether the Coach is Tic Price or anybody else. We can cuss and discuss who should be the new coach because that's what makes a message board interesting. Personally, I'm pleased with the progress made with Price at the controls and support the interim tag removal ASAP. If the administration goes in a different direction I'll still support the team just like I have since the late 70s. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 The effort has been good since the coaching change. We were in every game at the end except at Oral Roberts. That's a big change. Sam Houston State - Here.....Within 1 point with 34 seconds left in the game. Had a 1 point lead at 6:48 remaining in the game. Central Arkansas - There......Within 4 points at 34 seconds left in the game. Late in the game foul with UCA making its free throws followed by an LU missed three pointer sealed the fate. Back and forth game with the game tied as late as 4:30 remaining. UNO - Here......Win Big It would be great if the team can win out with Southeastern Louisiana. ================================================== Let's not forget the Ladies!!! They are tied for 1st place in conference after last night's win. I'm not sure how the conference tie-breakers for tournament seeding will work, but Lamar has a win against UCA in the only game against them. They split against SFA with both teams winning at home. The Lady Cardinals' overall record is currently at 17-11. I hope I don't jinx them, but they have a chance at another 20 game season counting conference tournament games. Quote

If Lamar beats SELA and SFA loses to UCA, they recieve first palce in the Southland. If Lamar loses and SFA wins, SFA wins the Conference. If Lamar loses and UCA wins, UCA is conference regular seson champions. Lamar holds the tie breaker over UCA with that win in Conway last week. SFA hold the tie breaker against Lamar as the tie breaker, I believe goes to the points system and SFA blew out Lamar at home. We need to win and hope that UCA wins at SFA. JUST WIN LADIES! Quote
Big T Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 So I just went and read the rules, and if Lamar wins they will spit the regular season title. I am not sure how this works in the talk for NIT or NCAA berths. The winner of the regular season title automaticaly recieves a NIT invitation. The Conference Tournement Champ get the NCAA bid. I am not sure how it would work if both first palce teams were to lose in the Southland Tournemant. Who would recieve the NIT bid? Anyways, if the Ladies just win there will be no issue. Quote
Guest austinred Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Last night's men's game give us some hope that the players coming back next year are not as bad as we thought. It was apparently really bad coaching. Quote

coachacola Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Last night's men's game give us some hope that the players coming back next year are not as bad as we thought. It was apparently really bad coaching. I get the feeling that Pat Knight quit trying after his first year here. He got the team to the NCAAs, he got a raise, all without doing the hard, dirty work of recruiting his own players. I think it's almost impossible to win only 6 games in two years, no matter how bad the talent, especially when you're coaching in the SLC, unless you just don't care. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Here are the seeding possibilities. http://southland.org/news/2014/3/7/WBB_0307141800.aspx According to the article, we are assured of at least a #2 seed and a bye to the semi-finals. That's great! It would be even better to win the regular season. Tomorrow's games are very important. For us, SLU beat us at their place. Here's to returning the favor Saturday. UCA and SFA play head to head. Not much we can do about that other than monitor their game. I'm ready for the tournament and plan on going to the games. That's the nice thing about living in West Houston / Katy. :) It would be even better to have both the men and women in the conference tournaments. Maybe next year.
