Beaumont Golden Gators

Beaumont Bullfrogs

The Wax Track

Johnny Carrinos

What do these things have in common? They once existed in Beaumont and they are now extinct. This is just a small sample of things, some little and some big that didn't stick around in Beaumont for one reason or another. Have you been to Crockett Street lately? So much potential, and such a let down.

I'm genuinely shocked Parkdale has lasted this long. What's my point in all this?

My point is... what's next? Lamar is so far behind other schools as far as the campus goes, the stadium, Vincent Beck has been there since 1731. Why not pour money into this city and make it a destination that tourists want to visit? Are we scared of Houston? People in this area either go to Houston, Austin or Louisiana for entertainment. What's wrong with a little VISION? Casinos on the river, high end restaurants, stadiums, bigger and better malls, entertainment venues, it's all possible but the city is sitting around with thumbs up their butts watching the place burn.

We let our school sit without a football team for years, we let our basketball program turn into an embarrassment. This city is embarrassing. I'm sick of being a joke. I'm sick of hearing from people who once lived here that they will never return. :flush:

Why not focus on the positive things and try to make a difference? Have you written anyone at the City or do you just spew your garbage on message boards? What good will that do?

The area near Central Mall in Port Arthur is growing rapidly. Beaumont is talking Waterpark and hotels. Vision is there, it just takes time. We have a big black eye thanks to Beaumont ISD but we are cleaning house now. Lamar has plans in place. We just need to get the money and get moving. I have so many ideas for the area. If only I had the money. If only.

Can't you say one positive thing about anything at all? You sound like a miserable person. Maybe you need a beer.

Casinos on the river

The best idea you've posted on this site...but oh wait...YOU CAN'T HAVE A CASINO IN TEXAS YOU JACKASS...take your bitching somewhere else...you act like we are the friggin decision makers for LU and Jefferson County...been refraining from replying to you're posts since I believe you're just a worthless troll but I'm tired of seeing your crap

CS have you seen the growth in the area??? so what johnny carinos shut down... it was mediocre italian food... its called capitalism... if it sucks NO ONE GOES.... We are getting billions pumped into the economy and the private sector is doing it... The jeffco govt is way to big as it stands. If they would just let the economy grow without their good ole boy deals this place would be much better off.. instead since it is so big we have one of the most corrupt govts in the state of texas.. The school district sucks in Beaumont because of to much govt... get the govt right sized and this place will grow.. As far as vision Lamar is doing a great job compared to like sized schools. We have a bigger endowment than most schools in our TSUS and we are growing. You need to go back under the rock you came from.

CS...I'm really starting to not like you. Give us your bio of what you have done positive for the area before you start throwing stones. I can only assume that you are one of those that complains but never takes the time to vote. Please do some research (Casino's are illegal in TX) before you post.

I have been wondering if you are just playing around? Are you? I am not sure. But, if you are serious, the city is not embarrassing and nor is it a joke, but I do understand how sometimes we can feel or think that way. Alot of people leave the place they grew up and never return because that's just how things happen for some folks. I left where I grew up from and I know that I will never return, but my hometown was a good place overall. Look at what the last 5 years has brought to Beaumont... Football is back, we actually have the newest and best football facilities in the conference. We are "ahead" of everyone else thanks to some very rich and generous people. Go walk in the front door of the locker room/office building and check out the weightroom... it is right there and its first class. Nothing and noone is perfect, just ask my ex she will gladly confirm my statement. :) The football program is on the right track.. just check the article that I posted a few days ago..... and it is not my opinion its somebodies opinion outside the program. We are moving in the right direction which is evidenced by a season ago where we competed in every game except Oklahoma State and I expect another competitive year this year. The basketball program is trying to rebuild after the Pat Knight destruction of the program.... just give them a little time and they will get it worked out. Were it not for the lean times (bad times) we would never appreciate the good times. Hang in there, this football season just may surprise you and give us all something to cheer about.

Thanks to all for pointing out that the Golden Triangle area is not a lost cause, nor is Lamar. I agree with a couple of the posts that Beaumont city gov't is to blame for some issues like the BISD fiasco and the Ford Park and Ford Pavillion deal which were done and the tax payers billed for it without any say-so at all from the people who have to pay for it. That was down right shady business. CS is right about the good ol' boy network but it's more of an attitude spawned from the old refinery days when you knew a guy who could get you stuff at a discount or for free. An individual can operate like that but businesses can't---not for long. You talk about vision, CS. What about the hockey team that nobody went to see. What about the Beaumont Golden Gators who won league championships their first two years and had at least 5 guys who made it to the bigs and did well that nobody, except for nights when the San Diego Chicken was there, nobody went. Crockett St a disappointment? After an initial surge to the area, nobody went. As someone pointed out, capitalism weeds out the weak and while there may have been vision it wasn't enough to merit success. There are good things about this area and they do need time to bloom. This is a pretty nice place to live if you really think about it.

don't forget that within 15 minutes of campus you have communities that are some of the best places to live in America.port neches,Nederland, groves,hf,hj,bc,orangefield, slumberton, etc.I know I left out some but you get my point.
