BigNasty92 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I would like to know who is directing the recruiting department. It seems that he is doing a great job. Now the question is going to be is the coaching staff good enough to take this talent and use it, particularly the OC. The OC is going to be fine. I'm more worried about the DC. Quote
KABrother88 Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 I would like to know who is directing the recruiting department. It seems that he is doing a great job. Now the question is going to be is the coaching staff good enough to take this talent and use it, particularly the OC. Ben Beasley is the recruiting coordinator and does a dang good job. He is a very good recruiter and has worked at Sam Houston St, Northwestern St. and McNeese where he also graduated from so he has strong recruiting ties in the SETX/SWLA area. Brian Morgan is another guy who is a very good recruiter. He primarily works the Golden Triangle (Port Arthur native) and the Houston area. Prior to coming to Lamar he had held the recruiting coordinator position at Prairie View. Morgan and Chuck Langston have really made a difference in local recruiting I believe. Langston is a Beaumont native and his kids go to Port Neches-Groves where we just signed 3 kids (1 being his). The 2 newest coaches (Willie Mack Garza & John Blake) also have previous reputations as good recruiters. We will see what they can do through the 2017 cycle. Quote
KABrother88 Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 Lamar will host Homles CC (MS) DL Theron Hodges (6'3" 300 lbs) on an official visit this weekend for the Crawfish Bowl. No offer as of yet however. Last season in 9 games he recorded 43 tackles, 6 TFL and 1 sack. In 2014, he had 27 tackles, 5 TFL and 1 sack in 9 games http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3025462/theron-hogdes Quote

eagle eye Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Hodges was officially offered this morning Any update on whether Hodges is coming to Lamar. It would be awesome to get a guy like that to play NT. The guy isn't just big it looks like he can really play. Hope he signs. Quote

Dracula Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I'm confused, is he coming to lamar this season or next? Quote
KABrother88 Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 This season. You will see quite a bit of JUCO action around this time of the year around the country. This is a time when schools fill holes that were created by various reasons. Sometimes schools miss on players late in the cycle leading up to National Signing Day and can't fill a spot on short notice. Sometimes voids are created during Spring Practices due to injuries or attrition. Or the coaches may see a hole they didn't expect in the spring that needs to be addressed. By going the JUCO route you are getting a player who is a little more advanced and will be more of an immediate players come fall. Anyone who was at the Crawfish Bowl can vouch that LB was extremely thin and only had 3 guys suited out. We will have quite a few freshman LBs coming in but some of them may not be ready week 1. WBCP2 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I'm hearing Bear Christensen (perhaps LU's best LB) has decided not to return next year. Apparently, Beaumont was not for him. This hurts the D big time in my opinion.:( Quote
KABrother88 Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 He definitely played better than I expected last season and his loss will be felt on D as well as Special Teams where he was a big contributor. He was moving to LB from WR so I wasn't really expecting much contribution as a freshman but played effectively and got a bunch of snaps. That being said, he was recruited as a 3-4 Rush OLB. With us moving to a 4-2-5, he was being moved to an ILB and might have been a little out of position...not many 6'6" 200lbs ILBs around. That has been my concern with 2016 signee Jarett Carpenter. Very similar build at 6'5" 200 lbs and played a 3-4 Rush OLB in HS. It would be possible that he could spin down to DE if he could add the necessary weight but that might be asking too much. Quote
KABrother88 Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 [tweet]733112187401572352[/tweet] D.J. Thompson a 5'8" 190 lbs WR that is transferring from Washington State. He was originally a walk-on there from Venice HS in Los Angeles. Took a RS in 2014. Did not record any statistics in 2015 per WSU's website. Would have 3 years of eligibility. KABrother88 Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 While reading a short East Texas Sports Network (ETSN) article about a 2017 offer we just gave out, they mentioned another East Texas kid who signed in Feburary...since he wasn't announced by the school I assume it's as a walk-on...seems to be an interesting prospect...QB Case Robinson (6'2" 195 lbs). As a Jr he thee for 2,975 yards and 34 TDs to 9 INTs. Followed that up with 3,701 yards and 48 TDs to 8 INTs as a senior. Added 832 yards and 18 TDs on the ground as a Sr as well. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2610532/case-robinson Quote
Dracula Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 This kid will be at Lamar this season? He reminds me of that QB from McNeese this past season. Quote
KABrother88 Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 Yes his Twitter bio reads "Lamar University Football 2020". Quote
c.cunnington Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Yes. The Case kid will be at Lamar. King dad told me that King was contacted by him on Twitter months back. Think King old basketball coach told Case bout King and Case reached out to him & been communicating. Quote
KABrother88 Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 [tweet]740341512169357312[/tweet] Samory Collier a 6'0" 175 lbs WR from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Looks to have good speed (listed at 4.38 40) and not afraid to go across the middle. Good combination to have. Would help with depth at a position of need. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2712142/samory-collier Quote
Dracula Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Case Robinson might be a steal. At 6' 2, a little better than 200 lbs, runs in the 4.6 range, and just makes plays. I don't know where but I think that he will be on the field a lot next year. Quote

spoonbill Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Demontrai Lewis-Byrd has committed. [tweet]692483309952200710[/tweet] Anyone have any news on this kid? I know he had grade transfer issues and couldn't play at Lamar this year. He looked like a beast at Kilgore. I was hoping he'd get it cleared up and come next year. I know his family was impressed with Lamar's deaf studies major program. Quote

I haven't been able to get an answer yet but gut tells me to not expect him to be here. He used his RS at Kilgore and had 3 years to get qualified and didn't make it. If he were to make it in then he would be a senior next year having been out of football for a year. Quote
