Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Montagne Center. Our players know that second place is on the line," Lamar coach Robin Harmony said. We know that Sam Houston State is a team that will play hard for 40 minutes. We're not taking them lightly." Lamar (16-12 overall, 13-4 Southland) comes into the game off an 81-64 win over Incarnate Word on Saturday behind a career-high 35 points from JaMeisha Edwards. Edwards leads Lamar in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game, boosting that figure to 18.6 points per game in conference play. The Lady Cardinals have a head-to-head against the other #2 seed contender, Nicholls, but since the two only played one game against each other...failing the "after two games against one another" test, that head to head record does not count. 1. If two (2) teams tie for a position, and one (1) team holds a head-to-head win-loss advantage after two games against one another, that team receives the higher seed. The next tie breaker is which team has the best record against the next team with in line with the highest record which each team played twice. 2. If two (2) teams tie for a position, and if the teams split their regular season games, or if they only played one game against each other, then the tied teams’ won-loss results against the highest positioned team(s) they both played twice shall be compared. This shall be continued through the final standings until one (1) team gains the advantage, thus the higher seed. If I read the tie-breaker rules correctly, below is how it would work out as of today. The matches against SFA are out - Both teams played SFA and each lost their games against SFA. SFA wouldn't count anyway. Lamar played SFA twice, but Nicholls only played them once. The matches against Central Arkansas are out - While Nicholls plays UCA twice, the Lady Cardinals don't so that lets them out so we go down the list. The matches against Northwestern State are out - Lamar only played them once, winning. Nicholls did not play them. The matches against TAMU-CC are out. - Both Lamar and Nicholls played them only once. That takes us to McNeese - Both teams played McNeese twice. Lamar split with McNeese while Nicholls won both games. - ADVANTAGE NICHOLLS Link to SLC tie-breaker procedure: http://southland.sidearmsports.com/sports/2014/1/16/MBB_0116140635.aspx Edited March 6, 2015 by KABrother88 Quote
geezer Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Provided the ladies win they are the number two seed as Nicholls has five losses and LU has four. Even if SFA lost both of their last two games they get the number one seed by sweeping the lady cards. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 Correct. The tie-breaker procedure wouldn't come into play unless the Lady Cardinals lose tomorrow and if Nicholls wins its remaining two games. That would put both teams at 13-5. The Lady Cardinals have the much easier path to the #2 seed, but it is not an absolute yet. They control their fate. They just need to take care of business and maintain control. SFA took care of business and locked up the #1 seed on February 28. Quote
