To wrap up the defensive side of the ball we'll now take a look a the secondary.

Note:

* represents player was a starter at the end of 2014.

** represents player was 2nd team at the end of 2014.

Letter in ( ) represents what eligibility player will/would have had starting the season with "E" being exhausted eligibility.

Who We Lost:

Montez Hunter* (E)

Colby Campbell (Jr)

Judge Wolfe (So)

Reid Entsminger (So)

LaDamian Coney (R-Fr)

Who We Return:

Seth Ellis* (Sr)

Michael Sheridan (Sr)

DaQuan Stewart* (Sr)

Tommie Barrett** (Jr)

Ronald Barrett (Jr)

Xavier Bethany* (Jr)

Lloyd Julian* (Jr)

Tristan Ridge (Jr)

Who We Added:

Chaston Brooks (Fr)

Zae Giles (Fr)

Tariq Gordon (Fr)

JoJo Henderson (Fr)

Davon Jernigan (Fr)

Jerbrell Lipscomb (Fr)

Rodney Randle (Fr)

What We Know:

The secondary played pretty well in 2014 considering what all we lost from the 2013 unit. Xavier Bethany broke out starting all 12 games at SS and Seth Ellis started 11 games at CB. DaQuan Stewart started 9 games at FS and, IMO, played better than Kevin Johnson who started the other 3 before he was eventually kicked off the team.

What To Watch For:

The 2015 DB signing class is absolutely loaded with talent. I believe all of them could very well step right in and fight for playing time and should be special teams guys at minimum. Giles, while listed as a DB has been working out with the offense too. Randle is reportedly working with the 2nd team at CB and a recently posted tweet by Tommie Barrett stated he will be moving from CB (where he exited spring as a #2) to S. Assuming Randle overtook Barrett and that's not a bad thing.

What To Expect:

This should be a quality group again this year with the potential to be the best we've had since the revival. Seth Ellis is very underrated in my opinion and could very well end up being an All-SLC selection after this season. Last season was his first to focus solely on the CB position after also playing RB, WR, & even Kicker in JC.

My Week 1 Prediction:

CB:

1 - Seth Ellis

2 - Michael Sheridan

SS:

1 - Xavier Bethany

2 - Ty Johnson

FS:

1 - DaQuan Stewart

2 - Tommie Barrett

CB:

1 - Lloyd Julian

2 - Rodney Randle Jr.

Previous:

Quarterbacks

Runningbacks

Wide Receivers

Tight Ends

Offensive Line

Defensive Line

Linebackers

This may be arguably the deepest position on the team. It won't matter how good they are if we don't have a pass rush and fortunately we seem to be well represented there too. I'm looking forward to Sept 5 to see the Cards in action.

Thanks again, KABro for the time you spent doing this preview series. Nice job!
