geezer Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Lamar slowly building the lead 2 minutes left in the half and LU is up by 18. Quote
geezer Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 At the half Lamar 46 TLU 32. I don't think Lamar is playing the quality of defense they need to once we get to conference. Quote
geezer Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 About 14 minutes left in the game. LU moved out to a 20 point lead but then have gotten sloppy again. Currently still up by 14. Quote
geezer Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Just noticed Booze hasn't played at all tonight, any ideas of where he is? Quote
geezer Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 At the under 8 minute time out, Lamar is up by sixteen 69 to 53. Quote
geezer Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 At the under four minute timeout Lamar is up by twenty one points, 81 - 60. Chatman picked up his fourth foul. Forty nine fouls called so far in this game. Quote
geezer Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Final score Lamar 86 Texas Lutheran 69. It's always good to get a win, but to me it's disappointing that LU didn't bury this team. Built up to a 20 point lead several times but then turnovers and poor shot selection would allow TL to get the game back to about a fourteen point lead. Mattingly had another good game, he may be coming on as that upper classman leader this team needs. Quote
CardinalClaw2 Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 The last two games have been disappointing, this team seem to be take a step backwards. Quote
geezer Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I guess the bright side is that two of the normal main players, Booze and Gregory didn't play and neither did Christian Kennedy did not play. Both Gregory and Kennedy have minor injuries but should be good by conference. Did not catch why Booze didn't play. Quote
coachacola Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 They should be winning these types of games by 30+ points. I'm also concerned that the starting lineup keeps changing. Maybe they are playing down to the competition but with conference play about to start they need to find their groove fast. Quote
lu cards Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 booze is in the dog house from what I gathered last night.played lots of true freshmen last night.think were a year away from being really good. Quote
puddin tane Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 dammitt people..i don't know if they are any good or not...but its a helluva lot better than they were doing under the lil general. Quote

I think the real reason Pat Knight didn't play sub-D1 teams because he knew he'd lose to them. Looking at the Massey ratings, Roccaforte's teams averaged in the 300s, then Pat Knight took over a senior-laden team and did well, then the ratings plunged down into 600s and 700s his next two years. Now with Tic Price the coach ratings are back into the 300s. Add in the ridiculous statement that Knight made (it's hard to recruit players to Lamar) and it's truly astounding how awful he was as a coach here. Quote
geezer Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Knight was a decent game coach as displayed when he had Roc's recruits. Recruiting was always his problem. He couldn't recruit at Texas Tech either. That is why he couldn't win enough there to keep the job. Roc could recruit but never learned how to coach, his teams really didn't improve over the season or individually as players through their careers. Price is a better recruiter than Knight by light years. If I have a complaint with his coaching at this point it's the lack of consistency in the playing rotation. I think from what he says that he tends to play whoever is working the hardest in practice, and while I agree with players needing to practice hard I don't know if it should be a week to week thing as appears in the starting line up changes from week to week. Players need to be comfortable when they step on the floor, not worrying if they make a mistake they're going to get jerked out of the game. Again I don't know all the ins and outs but it seems that Mattingly and the team is benefiting from his increased playing time. Quote

There are only about 350 division 1 basketball teams Quote
cardinal Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 dammitt people..i don't know if they are any good or not...but its a helluva lot better than they were doing under the lil general. Lol. That's not saying much. Legacy girls B team is better than what Knight put on the floor Quote
puddin tane Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 What? 600's??? There are only about 350 division 1 basketball teams For the Lil General to be in the top 600...I think that includes all level of colleges, including intramural....and quite a few high schools. Quote
KABrother88 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 What? 600's??? There are only about 350 division 1 basketball teams Massey Ratings ranks all college teams in one ranking no matter what level (all 4 year and JUCOs as well). 2012 (Knight's first year with Rocc's players) Lamar came in at #139. 2013 Lamar came in #797 2014 Lamar came in at #647 and it was surely worse than that before the little surge to close the year under Tic Quote
geezer Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) Like I said. Knight was a terrible recruiter. I doubt you will ever see him as a college coach again and I thought he was a bad hire from the beginning, but the 2012 team wouldn't have reached 139 under Roc. No argument that he drove Lamar into the cellar in the college basketball world. Edited December 26, 2015 by geezer Quote
