Is this round of early offering something new or has Lamar done it before?

It's pretty standard. Between April 15th and May 31st is part of the "Contact Period" in the recruiting cycle where college coaches are able to go to HS campuses and visit. Typically most of the offers we give out at this stage are long shots and the kids usually end up at mid to lower end FBS schools. Some of them however will end up at FCS schools and it's not uncommon for us to get a couple commits from this group. You will also see another round of offers go out after the season...that is generally where the majority of the signing class will come from. From what I have been told, this class should be a rather small one due to the last 2 being large signing classes. At the moment we have 20 reported offers...compare that to McNeese who has handed out close to 100 offers already.

The number of scholarships offered has to be more than the number available. If Lamar has a good season, and I think that they will, It's going to be interesting around signing time.

The last 2 cycles we've had roughly twice as many documented offers as signees...have to realize you aren't getting everyone you offer a scholarship to. We are sitting at 31 documented right now but compare that to McNeese who is probably pushing 100 already. Most of their offers are guys that will not be playing at the FCS level but they will throw their hat in the ring anyways. From what I've been told, the staff is expecting to sign a smaller class this season than the past couple. My guess who be in the 15-17 range with additional JUCO and FBS transfers next summer when attrition shakes out. That being said I was also told the staff was expecting to sign 18-20 on this past signing day and ended up with 28 counting the 4 mid-year transfers.

I remember being at Kyle Field and watching the Aggies come out to warm up. I was in section 101, fairly low to the field, with a good view of the Aggies as they came out of the tunnel. I thought to myself, they don't look so big and then the linemen came out and I changed my mind. It would be nice if Lamar came out and they had a bunch of these type of guys. If the Good Lord is willin' and the creek don't rise and the staff doesn't run me off, I'll be in my usual pregame perch, which is on the Homeside, South entrance ramp, to the stands. You get a nice view of the players walking down the ramp, from the field house, and the run on to the field.

Darrion "D.J." Green a 5'11" 175 lbs DB from Dallas Wilson HS

Rated as a 2-Star (77) on 247 and 3-Star on Scout

Other offers from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Kentucky Christian, Michigan, New Mexico St, Northeastern St, Prairie View, SMU & Texas Southern

Also of note, Green is partially deaf so the strong sign language program at Lamar might be a factor in his recruitment.
