Dracula Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I think that the WR, slot, and TE have the speed. I don't like to be critical because everyone is doing their best and I don't know anything about an OC game plan but my gut feeling is that the OC just isn't good enough. Quote
puddin tane Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Watching the game I didn't think "oh, they have better players". The talent seemed comparable to me but I'd have to agree on the line play, their line play beat ours, no doubt. Tebo, one tackle?? Wth, make some damn plays. And like many others have said...our play calling is soooooooo boring. I'm curious, our receivers looked VERY slow to me. Is there any information on any of them on 40 times? Do we have any receiver that can stretch the field or make big plays??? If not, put Kendrick King out there. I know that kid has plenty of speed/quickness. their qb sucked Quote
KABrother88 Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 Noticed the Center Matt Oubre was limping very noticeably (think right before the pick six) and ended up leaving the game. Coach Woodard said in his weekly presser today that Oubre would have an MRI tomorrow to see the severity of the injury. Honestly by Woodard's tone it made me feel like it wasn't a good outlook. Just got word that Oubre's MRI came back and he will not require surgery. They are hoping to have him back in a couple of weeks. Not expecting to see Treadway back this week either based off Coach Woodard's comments in the presser. Looks like it will be John Craven at Center flanked by Connor Ward and Kanon Mackey at the Guards Quote

He got a carry on an end around on the first series of the game and had a good gain. Thought it was a sign to come of him being actively involved in the gameplan. I don't even remember seeing him on the field after that however. Quote
Skinny1 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 During the game I was shocked at the lack of imagination in the play calling. Did we run a screen? A couple of gadget plays? Did not challenge their linebackers on passes across the middle. Thought LU players played very hard, but was not impressed with coaching. I agree, their QB is not up to par, but were very effective when they initially ran the "Wildcat". Thought Lamar could have put the back-up QB in towards the end to get him some game snaps. Maybe get some this weekend. Defensive line was handled well by CC, especially up the middle. BTW, their coach is a TURD, his really does not care for his players and their health or he would not have run up the score. What if a Lamar rusher tore out the knee of his placekicker on the final extra-point? Quote
coachacola Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 I can see this team starting 0-3 then going on a tear and finishing strong. But the season is young and the mediocrity of Woodard's coaching hasn't killed my enthusiasm just yet. Quote

Challenge their linebackers - no. Gadget plays - no. Two deep passes that I can recall, missed on one (the guy was open, I believe), connected on a post I believe. If we don't get more creative offensively we will only win 2 or 3 games. Kade is awesome but it's not too difficult to scheme against a team to stop the run. Yes, he had 200 yards but most of that was in the first half. Why we don't try at least 2 or 3 screen passes a game is beyond me. And, again, we continue to rarely use our tight ends. The pro's know how to use tight ends but it seems colleges do not. Quote

Their gonna have to go deep enough to at least keep the defense honest regardless of if they complete them and not on 3rd and long only, early on downs occasionally. They definitely need to mix it up and use their tight ends also. Kade had 207 on 28 carries which sounds pretty impressive but the two touchdowns were 59 and 64 yards. On the other 26 runs, he was pretty much bottled up as they keyed on the run. If my Lamar education math is right on those 26 he had a 3.23 per average. ;-) Quote
