KABrother88 Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 (edited) I don't know how Lamar got this ESPN3 TV deal but it's a sweet recruiting tool, as long as Lamar has a decent or better season. SFA was the first SLC school to get the deal doing so in the 2015 season. Lamar reached the agreement after last season and Sam Houston announced the same prior to this season...don't know if any others to have it. Following recruiting like I do that was naturally my first thought. I could really benefit us by letting the kids know they will be on TV and could play a factor in with parents too to know they can watch most of the games if travel is an issue. coachacola Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I watched the game on ESPN3 and I liked the announcers, they seemed a lot better than the two they had for the Coastal Carolina game. What they need to improve on is to crank up the crowd noise. It's a little odd not hearing much background noise during each play. Also they need to show the down and yards to go with the score. I think Abilene Christian has a deal with ESPN too. I think a school has to invest in the right production equipment to get a deal with ESPN. Quote
bigcam2903 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Minor setback for Randle Jr Day -to- day for now Quote
Dracula Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 During the team pregame warm up, there were 3 QB's tossing balls. #'s 11, 2, an 10. It looks like Case Robinson is now #3 on the depth chart. Quote
PeckEm Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Minor setback for Randle Jr Day -to- day for now Ok, good news. Hope he'll be back on the field soon. Quote
PeckEm Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Saw some good things from the cards tonight but still think we need to throw the ball down field more often. Cant just keep dumping it off and hoping it turns into a big play. I thought the defense played well but need to get a better pass rush. 1 down 7 more to go I agree. This offense is still very boring and very one dimensional. Granted, SE La just couldn't stop the run so I can see why we ran so much but we've got to get a damn passing game. It seemed like, again, they were really keying on stopping Kade and not worrying much about Earp keeping it so it was nice to see him keep it a little more. But, our passing game...talk about garbage. I think we only completed one semi downfield pass. On the flip side, it was nice to see us use the tight end a little more. It seems like no one covers the tight end in college football. Defense gave up WAY too many rushing yards. If you notice in the stats SE La actually had a greater time of possession than we did. The interceptions (and their lack of a passing game) were really big for us. Quote
PeckEm Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 This is what I thought I saw against Southeastern and looking back at the first three games. In the first three games, Lamar was overmatched speed wise, which killed our rushing attack, and when Lamar can't run, we lose because our passing game is so lously. Earp seems to be able to throw the inside slant but little else downfield. It seems like the younger LB's are getting in the game. I heard Minger and Crosely's name mentioned. I feel that the defense is getting there. Record wise, Lamar should beat Abilene next week and Northwestern the game after that. But then, off we go to play Central Arkansas and their national ranked run defense. But, for now enjoy the win. I agree...against UH. Sam seemed to have good overall speed as well but I think what killed us is the inability to throw the ball with any consistency. You stop Kade you stop our offense. And we NEED TO USE KENDRICK KING MORE OFTEN!! The only receiver I see on the field doing anything is number 6. Maybe part of our problem with the passing game is that nobody can get open except #6 (and the tight ends)? I noticed that we were playing a LOT of young guys...especially on defense. Quote

I think Abilene Christian has a deal with ESPN too. I think a school has to invest in the right production equipment to get a deal with ESPN. I don't know but for some reason it was a somewhat boring game...there weren't many things that happened to get the fans to wake up. It seemed that SE La was content to let us methodically drive the ball. I don't think they gave up many big runs but it seemed that we could almost get 3-7 yards per carry on every play. And we didn't do a very good job stopping their running game so they were able to hang onto the ball for one or two long boring drives. Quote
lu cards Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 big win for the good guys.i don't care if we win pretty or ugly just win.thought we looked better on both sides of the ball and still need to get better in several areas.hopefully we get some momentum going and roll the rest of the way. Quote
KABrother88 Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 As another poster mentioned I'd like to get Kendrick King more involved...believe he's only touched the ball 3 times all year and 2 were TDs...he's is going to be a dynamic player for us but he needs to the ball to become that. Overall offensively I liked what we saw much...no we aren't passing effectively but there was more creativity in the playcalling...getting the receivers in motion on end arounds is another dimension of the rushing attack teams will now have to account for. You know not a single player in green and white expected Kade to hand it off when he took the wildcat snap. Was really glad to see the amount of RPO plays (run-pass option) too. Good way to take advantage of a defense fully expecting run and defending both the RB and QB. Defensively there were near as many missed tackles that have plagued us. Daniel Crosley had a hell of a game...he will be a good one for us...remember he's just 4 games into his collegiate career. Also we were down 2 starters in the secondary for the vast majority of the game. Randle left after the opening kickoff and Jernigan on SELA's opening drive. Another true freshman in Staton stepped up and had a good game. We also get Jalen Barnes back this week and if you remember he was listed as the starter out of camp over Jernigan. Quote
eagle eye Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I like the fact that Lamar won, where the hell has this been? Better late than never but we need to see this again before it's anything more than a fluke. Quote
spoonbill Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 An ugly win is better than a pretty loss every time. Play calling was much better but a deep throw every now and then would help even more. Like stated before, it was nice to see the tight ends involved more than just blocking every play. King should get 6 to 8 touches every game. He's a dynamic young player. Just ask any HF fan how their team is doing since he left. The Crosley kid looks like he'll be a key contributor going forward just 4 months out of high school. Earp will hopefully keep progressing. He's still a little tentative to pull it in on the run pass option and cut up the field. With his speed, that should be utilized a little more to keep it mixed up. That play looked like it was there most of the night with them keying on Kade. Good win, ugly or pretty, in my opinion. Hopefully they take care of business the next 2 games and get more and more confident for the stretch run. Quote
KABrother88 Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 Langley Sparks Defense to Victory Over Lions Senior defensive back Brendan Langley tied a single-game school record with three interceptions to lift the Lamar University Cardinals to a 38-14 victory over Southeastern Louisiana (1-3/1-1 Southland) Saturday night at Provost Umphrey Stadium. The Cardinals posted their best defensive effort of the season to snap a three-game slide to start the year. Langley led a defensive effort that surrendered a season best 14 points to the Lions and 356 yards of total offense. The Cards (1-3/1-1 SLC) finished the night with two players recording double-digit tackles – senior Xavier Bethany (13) and Chaston Brooks (11). "This was a good team win at a time when we needed it," said LU head coach Ray Woodard. "I was encouraged by what took place tonight. I thought we looked like a team that had two weeks to prepare for tonight. We didn't complete a ton of passes but we completed some big passes when we needed to. Offensively, we had no turnovers, ran the ball well and we controlled the clock. Defensively, we forced a lot of turnovers. I thought our special teams were solid as well. I'm very proud of our football team tonight." Full Article Quote
KABrother88 Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 Langley Named Southland Player of the Week Senior defensive back Brendan Langley has been named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week announced league officials Monday morning. It is the first time this season that Langley has received a conference weekly honor. "Brandon did a great job of route recognition Saturday," said LU head coach Ray Woodard. "Two of his picks came off the same play. Brandon has a lot of God-given tools – good height, range, quick feet to go with his speed. A lot of times you see guys with great straight-line speed but can't change directions, or guys who are quick but not great straight-line speed. Brendan has both – great speed and he can change directions. He is also a very smart player to go along with his athleticism." Langley played a key role in helping the Cardinals pick up their first win of the season. The league leader in interceptions, Langley tied a program record Saturday against the Lions by picking off three passes as the Cardinals held Southeastern Louisiana's offense to 14 points. Two of the three interceptions came on consecutive possessions, and set up LU scores as the Cardinals pulled away from their guests in the second half. Full Article Quote
KABrother88 Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 Another thing I noticed was on the FG at the end of the 1st half, I don't think it should have even happened to be honest. When the offense substitutes (whether it be 1 player or all 11) an official is supposed to stand over then ball and allow the defense a chance to match. That didn't happen and if it had, we wouldn't have gotten the snap off before time expired Quote
