geezer
Lamar takes the court tonight against San Francisco at 9:00 PN CT. San Fran is currently five and one, with there one loss to be at Eastern Washington. SF should present Lamar with a significant challenge as they only have two players on their team shorter than 6' 3". All of their wins are against D-1 competition so we will see what Lamar learned from their game at Idaho State.
coachacola
San Fran is 5-1 against a relatively easy schedule. They haven't blown anyone out so Lamar can win if they bring their "A" game. We'll see if LU's quickness can overcome SF's height advantage. geezer
At the under 12 timeout in the first half LU is down by four 11-15. USF has made almost all layups or dunks.
geezer
At the under four minute timeout Lamar is down by 3 at 24-27. Lamar is contesting the outside shooting of USF but is giving up a lot of layups.
geezer
At the half USF is up 36-30 over Lamar. Transition points for USF is the biggest difference at this point. Lamar is slow to get back and USF does a really good job of getting the ball up court without dribbling off of rebounds and turnovers. USF turnovers has kept Lamar in the game. geezer
USF comes out in the second half and after Lamar gets the first basket, USF hits three wide open three point shots while the Cards commit a turnover and a couple of forced shots that don't go in fall quickly behind 48 tp 32. Lamar's ball movement just isn't what it needs to be as they are rarely getting an open look. Too much perimeter passing or when it goes inside the ball rarely gets passed back out. coachacola
Well, LU came out flat to start the 2nd half and is down 50-32.
Skinny1
Lack of height on this team is becoming a problem. San Fran looks to be well coached. I like their fundamentals - especially passing.
Houston Hoops
Lack of height on this team is becoming a problem. San Fran looks to be well coached. I like their fundamentals - especially passing. That's what happens when you play out of conference. Good experience. You won't see this size in the Southland. geezer
Final score USF 82 Lamar 63. Not the performance you want to see from the Cards. Lamar gets out rebounded by 10, commit 10 turnovers in the second half and have five more for the game than USF. PeckEm
That's what happens when you play out of conference. Good experience. You won't see this size in the Southland. We can keep using that as an excuse but we give up too many open shots and too many easy baskets. And we don't get people open on the offensive end. If that doesn't change the results won't be any better in conference.
geezer
Also the D-1 teams we have played so far this year are the teams we need to really compete with and win against if the program is to move forward. USF is in the same conference as Gonzaga and St Marys which have both gone to the NCAA tourney for multiple years and usually the conference gets two teams in the tourney. On the bright side of last nights game, I thought Atwood played descent considering it was only the second game that he played a significant number of minutes. He may have the potential to develop into a strong contributor as this season moves forward.
