geezer
With the UCA loss to SFA yesterday evening the Men are guaranteed the 8th place in the tourney no matter what happens this week. Two wins will probably keep the Cards in sixth place, but another Sam Houston loss could get them the fifth seed depending on the tie-breaker. Sixth or Seventh is probably the preferred seed as the match ups for the first round will be against a team the Cards have beaten this year but in the second round would you rather play the fourth or third seed. Most likely HBU will be the fourth seed and after Saturday I don't believe the Cards match up against them. HBU's bigger than Lamar at every position and Lamar hasn't really figured out a way to break down their defense. For the women they are currently the second seed and it will take two wins this week to guarantee they keep that spot and get the double bye. Theoretically the double bye and rest should put them in the best position to get to the finals but sometimes playing somebody that has played a game the day before has that team in tournament mode and can get them off to a better start than the team that is playing their first game, but I think the coaching staff would rather have the byes. lu cards
looks like the 2011-2012 season was the last time we made the slc tourney.i guess we can say after a 5 year absence just making it, is progress.just seems like the bar has been lowered so much that we may never get lamar basketball back to where we want it. geezer
I may be wrong but it would appear that the current administration is satisfied with the state of the program. So far Tic Price has done about what I have expected. He has got Lamar back to the tourney but hasn't landed the recruits that will take Lamar to the next level. From what I remember the two recruits coming in next year have a little more size so I will see what happens next. Like you though I am not satisfied just getting into the tourney. I want to see solid D-1 opponents on the non-conference home schedule, twenty plus win seasons and conference championships. I want to see Lamar as the cream of the SLC. I agree the bar is pretty low all things considered. Tic has got the team playing hard, but has questionable talent. Also this last recruiting class was almost all JUCO players, which is understandable, but they are all leaving after next year. He is getting the best local kids, but that will not be enough. And the local kids are not translating into attendance at the Montagne, and only winning will do that. IMO, the athletic department needs to get students to home games, football, basketball, & baseball. It is not the job of the coaching staff!!! The students "own" the athletic programs and are funding them thru their student service fees.
