Sweet T
The men will be playing in the CIT.
geezer
That is a good deal as they will get at least a few more days of full practice. Seems like for football the extra practice is one of the big things for schools going to the bowl games. Looked up the story on LamarCardinals.com and it says they are playing Texas State in San Marcos on Thursday but did not give a time yet. Also didn't say who they might play on down the road except that the SLC teams that were above them also got invites. Sweet T
They dont have a bracket for some strange reason. The use the old NIT format. You can look up CIT 2017 and it will list all of the teams invited. I cant figure out why Sam Houston didnt get an invite. HBU, SFA, Lamar and Texas A&M CC did. Wonder if SHSU turned the invite down, I wouldn't think so, but who knows. Kind of surprised Texas State did not get a NIT bid. Lamar will not be selling tickets for the game. My understanding is walk-up sales only. Edited March 13, 2017 by Skinny1

If I remember correctly, SHSU played in the CIT last year or the year before and paid $30,000 to host a first round game (cost per this article). There was quite a bit of outrage that the school forked over all that money for a meaningless game. As far as the bracket, I don't believe the tournament follows a traditional bracket tournament. In the past I remember seeing that they next round matchups are determined after the first round games are completed.
geezer
Looking at the total list of first round games it makes sense that they don't set a bracket going into the first round as there is a note near the bottom of their invite list that the top three seeded teams will receive a bye for the 2nd round so depending on upsets and geography they can easily decide to set the bracket then or do the same thing and wait until the final eight teams are set or even continue to keep realigning the matchups based on seeding until the finals. PeckEm
Oh crap, isn't Kaspar the guy who brought SFA out of no mans land? That guy is a fantastic coach. Omg. I feel mr negative (me) making a brutal return to this board after this game. This is my worst nightmare!! I went to southwest Texas my freshman year and one semester my sophomore year! Go look at their record in 1984-1985 and then look at ours! I couldn't get out of there and back to LU fast enough! They were a disgrace! An absolute joke! There were literally like 300-400 people at the games! I was disgusted! Now....they have to be favored, they get the home game, and to make it even worse they have Kaspar! I think he might even be an LU alum!? He made me give up my LU basketball season tickets!! I got tired of him putting on clinics in the Montagne with lowly SFA,! Oh shit, someone please tell me this is just a bad dream!!??
geezer
Hate to ruin your evening, but yes Kaspar is the coach their now and I don't know about playing at LU but he was an assistant coach at LU. Letting him get to SFA was another fine coaching miss by LU Athletic Dept. More good news, UNO made the lowly SLC proud with a one point loss in the 67 vs 68 seeded NCAA Tourney first round playin game.

I went and looked after I posted and pretty much confirmed every one of my fears. I'm glad you brought up the loss to 19-15 Mt St Mary in the play in game. I'm mr negative so I was trying not to mention it.
baller
The game is being carried on KLVI 560 AM as they got some sponsors to pony up so the game could be broadcast.Unfortunately the ladies also play today and Harold Mann could not be in two places at once I was told.Clone him next time!!! geezer
The agony of defeat ends both the men and women's season as the ladies loose by one to Rice and the men loose by ten to Texas State. In the men's game the only real bright point was TJ Atwood played about the last eight minutes and scored eleven points with three rebounds, one foul and no turnovers. By far this is the best effort that I am aware of for him as the other times I saw him in action he was forcing his game and had several turnovers. I think Bosha played a solid game. As for the rest no one did anything special. Hopefully the players will take the off season to work on their weaknesses.
