Lamar baseball team struggled last week

After sweeping IWU last weekend LU had a real good chance to make up ground in the SLC but they fell flat on their faces. They lost a non conference game on the road to NWSU on Tuesday. This was disappointing because they had just beaten them the week before at home. Then LU lost both ends of a double header to HBU on Friday. The Cards salvaged a win Saturday but losing 3 of 4 games to what looked like inferior opponents is disheartening. Good teams beat who they are supposed to beat but LU didn't get it done. Maybe their early success was just smoke and mirrors but you aren't supposed to lose at home to an equal or lesser opponent. LU needs to find another gear in these conference games. There 18 SLC game left in the season so it's not time to hit the panic button yet but the guys need to quit screwing around and start winning. I know our next game is Wednesday at Baylor but I couldn't care less about our non-conference schedule at this time. Win in NOLA next week if you want impress me. Because of losing 2 of 3 to HBU this past weekend if the season ended today LU wouldn't make the postseason tournament. Let's get it together boys--Go Cards!!!

Seems like inconsistent pitching has been the biggest issue. I can't tell from the roster how many of the pitchers if any are Davis's recruits. Someone else may have better information than I do.

We only returned 2 pitchers that logged more than 12 innings last year. Jimmy Johnson who had 51 innings in 22 outings with all but 2 in relief and Brett Brown who threw 30.1 innings in 16 appearance all out of the pen. The other 4 returning pitched combined for 30 inning last year. Davis has started messing with the rotation a bit to see if he can get something to click. One thing he has appeared to do is move the initial Friday night starter (Tanner Driskell) to the bullpen, move Saturday starter (Carson Lance) to Friday, and moved the former closer (Jimmy Johnson) to Saturday starter. I thought the sweep of UIW would give a little kick start that didn't happen. Then after seeing what SFA did to UIW it makes you wonder if the two 3-run games and one 2-run game against UIW is a bad sign. For those that missed it SFA beat UIW this weekend 21-8, 22-3 & 19-6.
