Lamar Softball Situation

While I hope I am wrong, part of it may just be that Born wants to show everyone that he is in charge. Since Bruder was in the last year of her contract it would have been easy to suspend her for one game originally and then just not renew her contract with the ninth place finish.

This exactly why this stinks to high heaven no matter what the circumstances. Why not just non-renew? This was handled by a bumbling idiot, someone trying to prove a point, or someone with a preconceived agenda.

I Don' know anyone or anything about the Lamar softball situation. But if LU is moving on, then I would suggest Born check into Aaron Fuller at Barbers Hill. No collegiate experience that I know of, but he has 1 state title at Buda Hays and has BHHS in the state tournament. Don't know him personally but do know someone who does and they say he is a quality person to go along with his success at the HS level. Just throwing it out there.

Admittedly I know there are examples of high school coaches that make the jump to college and are successful, but I think it is rather rare. The added requirements of recruiting real D-1 talent and understanding all of the NCAA rules makes a tough transition. Don't know what kind of pitch count or inning limit applies to softball compared to baseball but based on what I watch of D-1 softball, a really outstanding pitcher can pretty much carry a team. Saw a NCAA playoff game this past week where one pitcher threw about one hundred seventy pitches over eleven innings for a victory and came back the next day and pitched a few innings again. You don't see that in baseball except on a very rare occasion like game seven of the world series. Edited May 28, 2018 by geezer

Head Football coaches get fired every day and the new Head Coach may fire the entire old staff and rebuild with his guys. I can imagine that the AD's office may run the same. We hitched our wagon to Born. Now we need to let him pull and see what happens. it sucks being caught in the middle and let go but we've all been there and done that. I have. I wish Mr Murray to has a soft landing somewhere.

You've got to wonder who thought he had such poor performance. Born hasn't been here long enough to have any perspective on his performance. Born appears to be very good at doing what he's told to do.

Born is 35 and Murray is 59. Sometimes, it's just that simple and maybe illegal but only if you can prove it.

Man, what a mess. Now I'm hearing Lamar isn't going to grant the one-time exception transfer to current players stuck in this mess. Born has really fudged this up.

So much for the court ordered TRO lol. Not sure what these pics prove. College kids sitting around a table with what appears to be drinks. No way. Bruder with a beer can in what does look like a bus. No real context to them to prove anything that I can see. What a mess. BTW, Jim Gilligan was at the hearing in support of Bruder. Also, Attorney Bernsen, a former Lamar baseball player who was at the hearing representing the coaches with his LU tie on, stated "he was here to save Lamar from itself". hmmmm

Well a new head coach has now been hired...Amy Hooks who has spent the last 6 seasons and played at Texas. She finished her career there as one of the most decorated hitters in school history including holding the school record for career HRs.

So, with the hire what are the expectations for LU Softball next year? New coach, no head coaching experience, plucked from another SLC school, Lamar program potentially in shambles as how last year went and potential return players moving on? Personally I will hope for the best. For sure Bruder won't be back but realistically the purpose of the legal actions are most likely to get another years salary while looking for a job and improve her reputation so she can get one. Yeah they'll be fine. It's only the best players transferring so far. Another one officially gone today. They won't miss the sophomore who just finished as single season school rbi record holder much I'd assume. Oh, or the freshman that was the only first team all conference player on the team. They'll be fine lol.

Losing their best 2 players and incoming stud pitcher should help lol. I hope they do great. Ending the season on a 4 game losing streak was a killer. Dropped them 3-5 places in the standings. Not a great way to finish. It was a very spirited group last year. I hope they bounce back. The facilities are top notch for the conference they're in.
