Stretched, twisted, made up, and leaked for a trial by public opinion and the media is eating it up for sensationalism and click bait. It's the way of the world we live in now a days. As they say, Karma is one nasty mf'er though. Unfortunately before Karma ever comes, several people's lives will be upended by pettiness, selfishness, and greed.

Two comments. Sounds like the father is the real problem. Didn't the AD already say the school would honor her scholarship. I'm also pretty sure if the girl wants to go somewhere else and play the school would release her as that is done quite often. Second depending on where the supposed drinking incident may have occurred eighteen is the legal drinking age in multiple states and while I personally no longer drink it was never a problem saying no thank you. While many people look at a coach as a parental figure and think it is not appropriate for a coach to drink booze with the players, I know lots of parents that drink with their young adult children. KFDM is doing itself a disservice with that kind of reporting.

From what I've observed through the years, most of the time the Head Coach is the one that receives most of the blame/punishment when NCAA or university rules are broken. In this case Bruder didn't handle the complaint about the Assistant Coach in a manner acceptable to the University. Maybe there is an issue about the booze also maybe not. If the reported comment that Bruder indicated to the player that she could find plenty of jobs that pay more than Lamar I think she is gone. What Bruder may not understand is once a coach has an incident on their record some of those job possibilities disappear too. It's not always easy to rebuild your personal reputation.

If all of this come out to be hog wash it will be interesting to see if Bruder files a defamation suit against the family...there have been some serious allegations thrown out. And just for the record, the legal drinking age in all states is now 21.

The team next year will have a dramatically different look. I believe all of the girls have been given the choice to move on. Of course, some will have no choice but to stay. The ones that have a choice (ie. are talented enough to receive a scholarship elsewhere) will most probably be gone, same with incoming recruits. I was really excited by the hiring of the new AD. I wasn't really happy with Henderson and from everything I read about Born he seemed to be an up and comer with very good fund raising skills. I believe he dropped the ball here and bowed to parental pressure and litigious threats. Sad to say but I don't believe Henderson makes this decision. You just can't just let one spoiled, literally, rotten apple spoil the bushel. The players thoughts, wishes, and even accounts of this particular situation were ignored and they are incensed. Not some, not most, every single one. Good luck to the coaches and the girls that move on. All will land on their feet and be successful going forward wherever they are. Unfortunate, hard life lessons have been learned. Born will have to do some pretty amazing things to change this Alumi's opinion of him, but I'm sure that isn't keeping him awake at night. Lastly, if anyone is wondering, no, I don't have a daughter on the team or a dog in this fight just a concerned Alumni that supports and enjoys Lamar athletics.

If Holly Bruder was done wrong by the school because of accusations made by a disgruntled student then shame on our new AD. Like Spoonbill, I was excited to see the change at AD but the handling of this situation is disappointing to say the very least. I hope Coach Bruder, if she is as innocent as it appears, fights this as this incident puts a black mark on her reputation. I don't know if the accusations are founded but from all I've read about this it looks like Bruder got the short, dirty end of the stick.

If this is the case then it is what it is I guess. If there is such a video I don't think Coach Bruder will fight the firing. In this day and age there is no such thing as off the record with cell phone cameras recording every move you make. Could any of us survive such scrutiny? It's called being human but drinking with minors is not something you can easily forgive. Not when you play a big part in their well-being. Like Puddin' I will continue to support LU in all things. It's too bad what has happened to Holly Bruder, she was front and center when LU resurrected the softball program. She deserves our gratitude for the good job she did. The same gratitude due to Ray Woodard for helping the football program get back off the ground.

In an earlier article included in this thread the player and/or player's dad stated that Bruder claimed it's no big deal and that she could make way more money elsewhere. Also, it's been claimed/leaked that there is a video of Bruder drinking with players that are minors. In the latest article Bruder's lawyer stated that she would actively fight the dismissal and she did not sign a resignation even though her contract is up anyway in 4 months. It would basically be a non-renewal and their record wasn't stellar this year, i.e. didn't make the conference tourney, etc. 100% of the players except the one involved are ticked and saying they weren't involved in the investigation or their comments were ignored. Something doesn't mesh here. I'll be the first to chow down on crow if the "facts" put out/leaked so far are on the up and up. In my opinion there will be a settlement to Bruder, several girls will move on, Bruder will keep mum on the matter, move on also,and coach somewhere else in the future. The facts will never come out and that's a shame.

I think spoonbill hit the nail on the head. The discrepancies are there to see and it will be a shame if this all goes the way spoon thinks it will.

Plain and simple does not appear that the situation was handled in the best manner by anyone. Player could have just not eaten the meat. Coaches could have been more understanding, though none of us knows what the relationship between the player and coaches was before this incident. For the administration if there is more to it than just this instance then they should at least state that there were additional issues. Otherwise it just looks like the AD caved to a crying father and daughter over the threat of a law suit. If it is the last then Lamar is doomed to more years of mediocrity.

My initial assumption when I read that was there might be some weight to the drinking with minors accusation. Through all of this I’ve seen numberous people refute the way the sandwich situation went down but haven’t seen anyone refute her drink with minors. Maybe I’m just reading too much into that or maybe I’m not reading enough and it has been refuted.

 

In anther article I think posted by KFDM, the coaches attorney questions what culture Born is referring to and lists out some of the things Lamar Softball has excelled at including leading the athletic department in community service hours and having a 3+ team GPA. If the drinking thing is true, none of that means squat when it comes to an employment position where you are the face of program and probably 2/3 to 3/4 of your players are going to be under 21. It’s a sad fact of life that people are mostly judged on what is negative about them instead of positives. If I say Lance Armstrong everyone immediately thinks of a guy that roided his way to 7 straight Tour de France wins. But what doesn’t come immediately to mind it the amount of money and awareness raised through Livestrong which he founded even before his Tour run.

 

I recently spoke with someone who has a fair amount of knowledge on the situation and they told me there is information on both sides yet you be revealed. I truely believe this thing hasn’t peaked just yet...

The drinking with minors accusation was floated by the same player and players that have been dismissed from the team in the past, very recent past. Hmmm, wonder what they were dismissed for??? Because Bruder has class, it was for "team violations". Like I said, the full story will never be revealed, there will be a settlement paid to the fired coaches, and everyone will move on. The program will be set back for only a few years if a good coach is hired. They now have the facilities, thanks to Bruder, etc to attract a good coach at this level.

The program will be set back for only a few years if a good coach is hired. They now have the facilities, thanks to Bruder, etc to attract a good coach at this level.

Student athletes in all sports are suspended and even dismissed under this umprella for actions as minor as missing a study hall to getting arrested. Schools very rarely announce the specific violation and usually when you do hear it, it comes from the media or general public...and even that is typically regulated to higher profile players in higher profile sports.

There isn't a sarcasm font but if you knew why they were kicked off you could see the irony of one of the allegations towards Bruder. One of the dismissed girls has her fingers in this also.
