coachacola Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 It's time once again to follow LU to the bottom of the football rankings! Sept 8 (24 rankings) #7 SHSU #20 Central Arkansas #24 McNeese State #29 Nicholls State #40 SLU #65 NW State #75 SFA #79 ACU #102 LU #103 HBU #110 IWU https://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare1aa.htm Quote
geezer Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 That's real close to the bottom. SLC may be lucky to get two teams in the playoffs. Quote
puddin tane Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 That's real close to the bottom. SLC may be lucky to get two teams in the playoffs. well, they gotta have room for the 8 or 9 MVFC teams! Quote
geezer Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 FCS playoff selection is no different than selection of teams for the FBS bowl games or if the FBS playoffs were expanded. In the FBS all the pundits love the SEC and BIG 10 and teams with loosing records get bowl games. In the FCS the MVC has been tabbed as the best conference and a mediocre team from that conference is better than 2nd place in a lot of the other conferences because they play other MVC teams. Quote
coachacola Posted September 18, 2018 Author Posted September 18, 2018 Sept 18 (27 rankings) #16 Central Arkansas #17 McNeese State #26 SHSU #40 Nicholls State #53 SLU #56 NW State #67 ACU #92 IWU #97 SFA #101 LU #112 HBU https://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare1aa.htm I've noticed with the schedules that most SLC teams opt for 5 home games and a road game against a D1 opponent instead of a 6th home game against a cupcake like LU did. Abilene Christian and HBU seem to be the only other SLC schools that played sub-D1 schools. Quote

coachacola Posted October 14, 2018 Author Posted October 14, 2018 LU sucks. That is all. Correction, they don’t suck as much. Now at #87, ahead of SFA and HBU! Quote

No top 10 teams but only one really bad team. LU still has to play the 2 worst teams and the 2 best teams in the conference. Quote

coachacola Posted November 11, 2018 Author Posted November 11, 2018 After beating HBU, here's the rankings so far... #16 Nicholls State - should get the auto bid #31 Incarnate Word - will they get an at-large invite after only playing 10 games? #37 Abilene Christian - must beat Central Arkansas for any chance at an at-large big #45 Lamar - gotta beat McNeese, would a 6-game win streak impress the selection committee enough? #46 McNeese State - looks like another season ending fade #52 SHSU - fading fast, can HBU beat them? #53 Central Arkansas - they need to beat ACU to help LU out #59 SE La #69 NW State #86 SFA #117 HBU - still dragging down the conference https://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare1aa.htm Quote
coachacola Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 Heading into the playoffs ... #14 Nicholls State - home game against San Diego #31 Incarnate Word - if they lose Saturday can they still play Iowa State the following week? KABrother88 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Lamar came in at #25 in the final FCS poll by Athlon Sports The Southland came in at #5 of 14 in the conference rankings https://athlonsports.com/college-football/fcs-rankings-power-poll-final-2018 Quote
geezer Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 It will be interesting to see what the first rankings for next year look like. What's the chance of LU being in the top 25 to start the year out? And what's the chance of living up to whatever hype is garnered by the successful end to this last season? For the conferences, will the Southland improve the ranking as it had five or six teams make the rankings at some point this past year? Quote

For the conferences, will the Southland improve the ranking as it had five or six teams make the rankings at some point this past year? Next season could be the most interesting since 2010 (when FB returned to LU). Has Lamar got over the hump and a legitimate conference title contender or was this past season a fluke? After watching this past bowl season (both FCS & FBS), it is obvious that the really good teams have solid players in the trenches. I think that Lamar should be ranked in the top 25, but on paper, they maybe hurt with the loss of starters in the secondary and at QB. I would think IWU be ranked above Lamar. I see us ranked 5th in conference pre-season polls behind Nicholls, Central Arkansas, IWU, and SHSU. Quote
