Well we play UIW next week in San Antonio, and that should be a win, even though UIW is playing tough right now at SFA. So there is a chance that the MBB season is mathematically over next Saturday at the Montagne Center versus SFA. Thought this team would do better at start of conference, but has not shown the consistent toughness to win close SLC games.

Not sure who would be left off of this squad but it looks like Hunter not returning may be the biggest missing link for this team. I loved the energy that Barrett brought but he didn't neccessarily have the confidence to score down the stretch. Not sure if Buster is just in a slump or if something else is going on. He was a streak shooter last year, but wasn't counted on in the same way he is this year. Still too many turnovers and you can't get beat that badly on the boards.

The expression is “last nail in the coffin” or “another nail in the coffin” not 5th nail in the coffin or however many conference losses we end up with.Tic Price has served the university well in many capacities and deserves better. He took over a program on serious APR probation and scholarship loss from a coach that didn’t follow up well on his players academics and was 5-50 over his last 55 games. There will be hundreds of thousands of new dollars coming from the NCAA for APR compliance in the future so whether Tic is here next year or not at least he helped handle the APR problem through recruiting and follow up so we can be financially rewarded.I have no issue if the team has another disappointing year in conference play resulting in him being replaced.I do think we can air displeasure with our teams play and results without insulting the players and coaches.Hurtful comments also weigh heavily on coaches wives and families. No one would want that about their jobs posted on a blog site.I must say Cardinal fans show more class toward coaches and players who lose than many fan blog sites I monitor in Louisiana and Texas. For those who wonder if we have had injury issues, both our point guards have been dealing with leg injuries since the beginning of conference play and have been improving.

Price said on the post game interview that the players were lacking the toughness at the end of games. So if that is insulting then I guess it goes beyond our criticism. I know coaches don't like to admit it but if players are hurt (and I'm sure some are) then let them sit and heal and play the ones that aren't. At least that way the fans understand. Yes, I do know players want to play even when they're not 100%, but playing hurt sometimes just keeps you playing hurt and is not what's best for the team. Price also said Atwood had a bad ankle.

As we all know there are different levels of playing hurt. The coach who sees the players more than fans has to decide a players effectiveness due to minor injuries balanced with safety concerns for the player.Russell Westbrook of the Rockets has been on a load management program of no back to backs after off season knee surgery. He also had dislocated fingers he was recovering from but playing. The coaches and medical staff weigh safety and effectiveness and healing in the decision when he plays and doesn’t.Eric Gordon also had minor knee surgery and is on a similar load management program.Dont forget we had a projected key starter transfer tear his ACL right before the season.None of this totally excuses another subpar season but I’m hoping we go on a long winning streak like last year to close out the season.

Actually, under new NCAA regulations, coaches are not suppose to do injury evaluations and determine if a player is fit for action, either practice or games. The trainers are not to be working for the coaches, but to someone else in the university, usually the athletic director. Some schools, such as Duke, Pitt, and Kansas, the training staff works under the direction of the university’s medical school. Texas A&M is currently under investigation by the NCAA for violating this regulation by both football and basketball.

Actually we are saying similar things and both referencing the role of medical personnel. Many times players are cleared by medical personnel but coaches don’t play them or limit minutes for a number of reasons, effectiveness, healing, abundance of caution etc.For example,The NCAA concussion protocols instituted were very important and coaches I know take that seriously. Not all ailments rise to that level like a touch of plantar fasciitis I have helped coaches and trainers with and a sprained finger.

It's time for Coach Price to go. Yes, he brought the program back from the abyss so he'll probably step down graciously and everyone will be happy. The bigger question is can LU build a program that rivals SFA, which is basically doing what LU was doing back in the 1980s. LU has tried for 30 years to find some sort of consistency and has failed miserably. They've hired young coaches, old coaches, experienced coaches, etc and nothing has worked. At this point does it even matter if they keep Coach Price or not?

If coach Price does not finish well in the conference and tournament it will be tough to renew him.Unless we go on a long win streak like last year that probably will not happen.Like with Coach Roc he has been unlucky with injuries. First Christian Barrett suffered another serious concussion in summer practice and he and his family decided it was best to retire. He was one of the best rebounders in the conference and was a projected starter. Then the Kent State transfer another projected starter tore his ACL.The Cards had the second best results before conference and looked formidable for conference. Then Buster,Atwood and Jefferson had minor injuries and Kopp is still recovering from his before the season foot injury and now getting that freshman experience.Imagine last year’s team with a healthy Atwood while they were winning ten in a row.A healthy team this year would have more depth and not have to rely as heavily on freshmen. All I’m saying is two of our last three coaches have been bit by the injury bug.Hopefully that changes. One thing for sure attendance is not impressive and needs to improve and only winning and excitement consistently results in that.
