geezer
Cardinal basketball teams will take on ACU for the 2nd time this season. The ladies will be at home with a 2:00 PM start, having dropped their earlier game by six in Abilene. The men are on the road for the return match at 7:00 PM. It will be another tough game for the men after dropping the home game. At this point in the season every game for both LU squads is a must win to make the tourney. The men may be in a little better shape as they are currently tied for sixth place. The men have a .500 win percentage against the remaining schedule. If the men repeated the .500 record in the remaining games, I'm doubtful that will be enough to make the tourney. The ladies are in ninth place. Skinny1
End of 1st quarter, Lady Cards playing good and leading 2nd place ACU 17-14.
Skinny1
With 2:13 to go in the 1st half, Lamar Lady’s FG shooting has gone cold and now trailing 31-24. ACU has a height advantage at every position.
geezer
Just painfully obvious that the ladies have a lot of talent but the size difference in most games is so hard to overcome. A little over two minutes left in the 2nd quarter and LU is down by seven.
Skinny1
Halftime, Lamar down 35-24. Getting no shots to consistently fall. ACU only has 10 girls suited out for the game, so if we can get them in foul trouble in the second half, maybe we can wear them down. Skinny1
Only a combined 20 fouls called in the first half, fewer than average for a women’s game in the SLC.
lamarfan360
Why do the ladies struggle so much in the 2nd quarter of games?
Skinny1
Lamar made only 1 FG in the 2nd quarter.
geezer
I think that by the time you get to the 2nd quarter, the emotion of the start is gone. Players are beginning to tire just a little and when you rely on the three point shot as soon as the legs start to tire the shooting percentage falls. Skinny1
Lady Cards fall 75-49. Shooting 25% FG, 24% from 3 point land. Only 40 total fouls called.
geezer
Out rebounded by seven and only shooting 25% from the field is not going to keep a game close. Will have to see what kind of recruiting class Franklin can get for next year.
geezer
Men start the game with three turnovers in their first three possesions, make that four.
geezer
Lamar has five turnovers in the first three minutes and are down 16 -2 at the first media timeout. Buster is still out with his foot in a boot.
geezer
Can it get worse, 11:19 left in the first half and LU has two points, no assists and nine turnovers. Oh yeah LU has made 1 of 10 shots.

geezer
When Atwood is playing the four spot and he is a better ball hanler than any of your guards you know it's bad. Atwood picked up his third foul with 1:17 left in the half.

Skinny1
I wonder what the halftime message is when you are down by 28 points. Can’t wait to see the second half adjustments.
geezer
I think it's usually something like, we need to focus and win each four minute segment. Need to get to single digits by the 4:00 minute mark.
geezer
Price forced to play Nickerson after Mouka fouls out. Edited February 9, 2020 by geezer
geezer
This was a game to just forget. Maybe I'm biased somehow, but watching the game I can't see why Price hasn't given Nickerson more opportunities. Nickerson scored two points, had four rebounds, no turnovers and no fouls in ten minutes. That's not necessarily great but it's as good as several others that have gotten more playing time. Kopp by the way was scoreless and 0-10 from the field on the night in 24 minutes.
Skinny1
Not sure if Koop is 100% or what. He is definitely in a scoring slump the past 2 games based on his percentage from the field. Hope he works through whatever it is since he plays hard on both ends of the court.
