BRI Staff
This is where we will count up to the $100 million mark for LU's capital campaign. There have been literally thousands of donations big and small that have got us to where we are today. ($88 million) Some of the most recent: Naming of the Athletic Complex for Chief Dauphin. LUSportsFan
While catching up on mail received while we were in Colorado, I noticed in the May, 2012 Cardinal Cadence that Dr. Simmons mentioned the "Investing in the Future" campaign is over the $100 million mark. (The website is still reflecting $97 Million.) Excerpt from Dr. Simmons' "From the President" article. "It is also exciting to report that Lamar's Investing in the Future comprehensive campaign is over the $100 million mark and on target to meet, or exceed, the new $125 million goal by fall 2013..." Summary of info on page 9 update. There's a good breakdown of where the money is going and where it is coming from. Where it's going ... Academic Support - 33% Scholarships - 31% Athletics - 19% Undesignated - 17% Where it's coming from ... Alumni - 52% Friends of the University - 23% Corporations & Foundations - 25% Other highlights from the article are ... 1. Of the 570 privately funded scholarships at LU, 201 have been created since the campaign began. 2. More emphasis on planned gifts. Planned gifts now account for 26% of the total raised. (I was going to link the online version of the Cardinal Cadence, but noticed the online version has not been posted since the May, 2011 issue.) Guest CardAmbassador
That's awesome. I would love to see them finish this campaign out and then set some type of specific goal for the next fund raising. It would be cool to see Lamar come to the Alumni with a real plan for something new, either a building or a new major that everyone could pitch in a little bit to help build. I love the Campaign as it is currently, but I think everyone would be really pumped up if there were a building on campus that was solely funded by donors, it would get everyone pumped up and involved in supporting Lamar. Just a thought for the future.

jdcurran235
I wonder if this gets us closer to being one of the school Texas is pushing to go tier 1. Especially with our change in classification to national university. I Know it doesn't really mean anything but it would be nice to say we are on the list. Texas State was put on the list last year, I doubt we'll see LU on the list until enrollment, graduation rates, and research $$ improve dramatically. LUSportsFan
Just wondering what the current total is. The website is reflecting $102,095,373. That's the same amount as in early February. Patsy and Michael Yennie Scholarship for Accounting Majors - Amount not mentioned - Feb 8 Mary Katherine Bell Regents Scholarship - Math Majors - Amount not mentioned - Feb 8 Doris and Vincent Leone Scholarship - Engineering - Amount not mentioned - Feb 8 Mike and Pat Aldredge Maribeau Scholarship - Meeting Maribeau requirements - Feb 19 Could be the above were already included in the February total, or hopefully, the website total needs to be updated. coachacola
The TSUS website has a new list of Approved Capital Improvements for 2014-2019. Here's some of the improvements planned for Lamar in 2014: Art Building renovation - $8,820,627.00 New Science Building - $39,926,600.0 New Softball Field - $2,600,000.00 Regional Commercialization Center (CIC) - $10,000,000.00 Vincent Beck stadium renovations have been pushed back to 2016. No upgrades to the football stadium are on the list. I think although these have been approved that doesn't necessarily mean they've been funded and could be pushed back. coachacola
I think the campaign has reached $130 million and it doesn't officially end until the end of the year.
