Lamar Baseball at UT Arlington

Cards won the first game on Thursday.

Friday's game no score after two innings.

Lamar gets an unearned run in the top of the third to take a one to nothing lead. Lamar avoids giving up a run after UTA's lead off batter reaches on a hit by the pitcher. End of three with the Cards up 1-0

Lamar picks up a run in the fourth. Now up 2-0 after four innings.

Through five innings Lamar still up 2-0. Bravo up to 70 total pitches. Don't know if Davis is limiting the pitchers to a pitch count at this point of the season but five to six innings is about as far as the starters for Lamar have gone so far this year.

Bravo returns for Lamar and gets through the sixth on twelve pitches. Lamar still up 2-0/

Lamar has gone three innings without a base runner. Buckendorf in to pitch the 7th gives up a lead off walk but a double play and strike out closes out the inning. Going to the 8th, still 2-0 Lamar.

Through eight innings the score is still 2-0 Lamar on top.

So we are 6 - 1 for the season so far!

 

Going for the sweep at UTA at 2pm today.

Game three, Lamar gets two runs in the first to take the early lead.

Second inning, Lamar gets their first two batters on but fail to score. Bottom of the second and UTA has four runs so far. Lamar making a pitching change with two out and runners on first and second.

Geez Coach Davis may need to look at his weekend day three rotation.

Fourth inning not over yet. Lamar down 11-2 and on their fifth pitcher of the day. None of the Lamar pitchers has lasted more than an inning and two thirds.

Through six innings and UTA leads 11-2. Hranicky came in to get the last out in the bottom of the fourth and did not give up a run in the fifth or sixth.

It seems when the wheels fall off on this team, it takes the entire vehicle with them - bumpers, fenders, hood, trunk, - all of it. That said we took 2 of 3 on the road at UTA ( a typically tough Sun Belt team).

Final score UTA 11 - Lamar 3. Cards did get one run in the top of the eighth, but no where near enough. Still two out of three is a decent weekend. Noticed it looks like the SLC play is four game series this year. Any idea of why the change?

I was told the conference office did it to reduce travel during the pandemic. Get this most games in since less teams are playing each other.

Cards pick up their third shutout win in four games with a 4-0 victory over UTA on Sunday. Cards overall record improves to 7-2.

Cards are home next weekend taking on Central Arkansas.
