Sure hoping for a competitive game.
Second McNeese ends with a 45 yard touchdown run. Missed extra point. No passes for McNeese on this drive, but with five to eight yard runs and then the big play, it doesn't matter. Lamar needs the defense line and linebackers to compete and get some stops at the line of scrimmage.
Morgan has Lamar try to go for in on 4th and 2 at the Lamar 32 and winds up with Dummett getting sacked at the 20. Defense holds on a fake field goal attempt from McNeese. Lamar ball at about their own 10.
End of the first quarter. McNeese leading 13 -3.
Following the stop of the fake field goal, Lamar executes a nice 90 yard drive including a fourth down conversion and several nice passes for a touchdown. 9:26 left in the first half and the score now is 13-10 McNeese in the lead.
Lamar defense forces McNeese into a three and out, including a tackle for loss on third and one. A short punt along with a penalty sets Lamar up near mid-field.

Keep it up Cardinals!
Players on both sides a bit chippy.
McNeese has a couple of good plays, picking up a first down near the forty. Lamar defense holds at that point with a couple of sacks driving McNeese back to near the 20 and forcing them to punt. Lamar takes over at about their own 35.

Cards look improved and competing well.

At 3 minutes left in half, Lamar still have no penalties.

For what it's worth, Sam Houston up 24-7 over Nicholls mid way through the second quarter.
Lamar punts to McNeese with 1:11 left in the half. McNeese starts on their 20.
Half time and all tied at 13.
Piss poor clock management by McNeese coaching staff at end of 1st half basically negated any chance for a go ahead score.

Not too bad for a bunch of freshmen...
Neither team does much on their first possessions of the second half. McNeese ball at their own 47 following the LU punt.
Defense holds, forcing a missed field goal attempt by McNeese. Cards take over at about the 21.
So far it seems like Lamar has a lot more success running to their left.
Lamar got inside the Cowboys 20, but then commits it's first offensive penalties and wind up punting because of the stiff wind in Lake Charles itnstead of trying a long field goal.
