coachacola
Any thoughts on SHSU joining CUSA? With NMSU and SHSU it looks like McNeese and IWU will join the WAC. Update: Hearing the McNeese is joining the WAC but no word yet on IWU. That would mean a 12 school WAC in 2024: West: Seattle, Cal Baptist, Grand Canyon, Utah Valley, Dixie St, Southern Utah East: McNeese, Lamar, SFA, Tarleton, ACU, UTRGV
geezer
I hope the move works out for Sam but I believe it will be a long time until they are mildly competitive in FBS. I also doubt that Lamar would be competitive any time soon if they made such a move, but at least we're used to not regularly having a winning season in football. Sam needs to add on to there stadium immediately and even then they will probably need a donor to buy up empty seats to meet the average minimum attendance requirement for FBS. geezer
Yes, I agree that the Lamar programs are not good to say the least, but I would say every WAC school is better than what is left in the SLC.

Tell me one WAC football team (excluding SLC transfers) that is better than any of the leftover SLC teams.?!?
lamarfan360
Tell me one WAC football team (excluding SLC transfers) that is better than any of the leftover SLC teams.?!? I think geezer was talking about overall sports departments of WAC members compared to SLC schools.
coachacola
Checked the current massey ratings for football the SLC is rated above the WAC. Incoming school Southern Utah isn't good at football. The WAC is a lot better basketball conference than the SLC so for us basketball fans that's a plus. geezer
Southern Utah who is still in the Big Sky this year is historically better over perhaps the last ten years than any of the Texas 4 except Sam Houston. Tarleton defeated SFA last year and also defeated NMSU this spring. They are definitely better than HBU and Northwestern State despite being in transition from D2 to FCS. Yes the big difference between the WAC and the SLC is in the other sports.

coachacola
i hope they lose every game. Fbs or fcs. I'm not sure how they'll compete at the FBS level with a high school stadium and having to send their team to all corners of the country. That's one unstable conference that I predict will keep reloading with FCS schools in the coming years.
