Lamar has a chance to start conference off with two wins after getting the opening win Saturday. It's been a few years since the Cards won their conference opener, wonder how far back it has been since the Cards won the first two

Well Lamar is off to a good start tonight.14-5, early first half.

Lamar opens the game strong with stifling defense, in the first four minutes created a ten second count keeping UIW from getting the ball across half court and a five second count on an inbound play for UIW. Three Cards have hit three's and all five of the starters have scored for a 14-5 lead at the first media timeout.

Over the next four minutes Lamar only scores one point and UIW slowly closes the gap to three 15-12. Lamar made the nearly full squad substitution and the second bunch just not connecting on offense.

At the last media timeout of the first half Lamar is up 31-18. Lamar defense has forced eleven turnovers on UIW to this point and have eleven points off of the turnovers.

Half time and Lamar leads 37-18. Lamar shoots 50% from the field in the first half including a 5 for 6 effort from beyond the three-point arc. Hamilton has ten points and five rebounds. Cards committed six turnovers which isn't bad except three of them were forced passes by Pryor. On the other hand, Pryor has three steals to make up for the turnovers. Lamar came out of the half and continued the energy going they had in the first half and extended the lead to as many as 27 points and at the under twelve minute timeout are up 58-34.

Lamar wins 75-59. Lamar was up by twenty plus for most of the second half, until emptying the bench with a little over two minutes left. Knight lead all scorers with 19 followed by Hamilton with 16 and Pennebaker with 11. Hamilton just missed a double double with nine rebounds. Lamar only committed eight turnovers for the game while forcing eighteen. Lamar sits at 2-0 to start conference, but will have a tough road next weekend traveling to Nicholls on Saturday and then McNeese on Monday. A split will be a great start for the Cards. Best defensive effort by Lamar in a long time. UIW really struggled against Lamar pressure due to not having a point guard that could effects handle the ball.
