Cards men and women take on Southeastern today with the ladies tipping off at 3. Womens' game is for a chance to tie for first place and avenge last years tournament loss, while SELA's men were originally picked to be at the top of the conference and haven't lived up to the preseason hype yet, but should still provide a very stiff opponent for the Cards.

Lamar gets one point more than Southeastern in the second quarter. Halftime score 26-22 Southeastern on top. The only place Lamar is really doing good is on the boards, with a 26-17 lead in rebounds.

Lamar continues their strong second half in the fourth quarter outscoring SELA by six to win by a final of 59-45. The win brings the ladies into a three way tie with SELA and Corpus for the conference lead with record of 7-1. Davis lead the way for the Cards with 19 points and 17 rebounds, followed by Dean with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Mitchell scored 10 to give Lamar three players in double figures for scoring. Lamar travels to Corpus next Saturday to take on the other team at the top of the standings. Edited by geezer

Men will need a win to stay tied for second as Nicholls has already one today to move to 5-2 and both McNeese and Corpus appear to be on their way to wins. Tipoff is scheduled for 6.

At the half the game is tied at 34 each. Both teams shooting 44.4% from the field with Lamar making three more three pointers, but SELA with three more made free throws. SELA is leading in rebounds but has three more turnovers than Lamar. Edited by geezer

For some reason, Lamar can never extend their lead once they are ahead by six to eight points. The opponent always comes back to tie the game or go ahead. I think it might be due to how Coach Brooks substitutes.

7:39 left in the game and Lamar is up by ten 58-38. Hamilton came in at about the sixteen-minute mark and seemed to settle things down as Lamar built a decent lead again.

3:37 left and Lamar has an eight-point lead. Can Lamar execute their offense efficiently to maintain the lead down the stretch. Can't give up open looks for SELA from beyond the arc, can't turn the ball over and need to get good shots.

Lamar wins by ten, 74-64 to remain tied for second place in the conference. Hamilton scores 13 points and get 7 rebounds playing fifteen minutes in the second half. Pryor scores 17 to lead the Cards in scoring and Jackson had 12. Edited by geezer

Lamar gets a solid win over SELa that had match-up problems with the Lamar line-up. Hamilton was too quick for their bigs to handle.

Nice to be in the upper echelon of the conference, but not confident it will last.

Lamar had single digit turnovers tonight which goes a long way in not beating yourself, but struggled a bit at the free throw line.

Attendance was listed as 2500 for the game. Might be a season high.

BTW, McNeese looked to have another Saturday night sell out with 4200.

McNeese's new arena reminds me of the old Beaumont Civic Center when LU played there in the 80s. If LU can keep winning I could see a 5k+ when McNeese comes to town.

Lamar is going to have to win on the road. Lamar has three close losses are on the road and games they had a chance to win. Also four of the next four games are on the road and depending on tomorrow night two of those will be teams Lamar defeated at home.
