Skinny1 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Will Wade, McNeese MBB coach has signed a 5 year contract extension for a reported $700,000/year. This is more than double any other SLC MBB coach. It also includes buyouts of $1.25 million this year, and $1.0 million the following years. Wade has been rumored to being approached by DePaul University, plus others. I do not believe the buyout costs will stop any of the big schools from going after him. McNeese is currently projected to be a #12 seed in the NCAA tourney if they win conference and the SLC tourney. Quote
lamarfan360 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 They can not be planning on staying in the SLC paying their basketball coach twice as much as any other school is paying their head coach. Quote
geezer Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 (edited) Or this is the start of raising the coaching salary bar for the conference. If this salary drives all the schools to pay better and go after higher quality coaches and players to get out of the bottom quarter of the Division 1 basketball conferences it may be a good thing. I agree a few teams will probably be able to raise the salary of coaches but I doubt a few unnamed schools will be able. Quote
coachacola Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Or maybe McNeese knows he want be around next year so they're betting on getting a big paycheck from a power conference school. Quote
Skinny1 Posted February 8, 2024 Author Posted February 8, 2024 I was calculating that if McNeese would be paying Wade via home ticket sales, it would come out to $13 per ticket assuming they sell out every home game. Quote

I have thought for some time that the Lamar coaches ought to have incentive bonuses based on fans in the stands. Quote
lamarfan360 Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 That 700k per year for Wade does not include incentives. I do not think that information has been disclosed. At least, not in the articles I have read. Quote
