geezer Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Men and women take on Nicholls Saturday at home. Both the men and women won at Nicholls. It will be the second game of the week for the women who play at UIW on Thursday to start their second half of the conference season. For the men, while all conference games are critical from the standpoint that Lamar isn't good enough to think that any game is a sure win, the game against Nicholls is against a team ahead of Lamar in the standings. Lamar men are currently in fourth place and a win Saturday will either move them into a tie for third or possibly second as Corpus is playing McNeese. Another reason this game is critical is that it is one of four remaining home games and three of the four are against the teams above Lamar men in the standings. Five road games remain and although Lamar has defeated all five teams at home, the road record makes each of those games a challenge for Lamar to stay in the top four. The women will tipoff at 3 PM with the men following at six. Quote
coachacola Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 The men can't afford anymore mishaps if they want to finish strong in the conference. I would safe Brook's job is safe for another year unless the team just tanks and loses most of their remaining games. Quote
geezer Posted February 10, 2024 Author Posted February 10, 2024 Lady Cards set a positive tone, leading sixteen to nine after the first quarter. Quote
geezer Posted February 10, 2024 Author Posted February 10, 2024 Nicholls makes an early run to close the gap to two points in the second quarter before Lamar makes their own run to end the half up twelve, 35-23. Davis is playing good today with a double double through the first half. Davis has 13 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Taylor and Denley with eight points each. Quote
geezer Posted February 10, 2024 Author Posted February 10, 2024 Lamar outscores Nicholls 24-9 in the third quarter for a twenty-nine-point lead 59-32. Quote
geezer Posted February 10, 2024 Author Posted February 10, 2024 Lamar plays a lot of subs in the fourth quarter and win 70-44. Quote
geezer Posted February 10, 2024 Author Posted February 10, 2024 McNeese men up by nine at the half over Corpus. Quote
geezer Posted February 11, 2024 Author Posted February 11, 2024 Lamar men off to a good start and are up by eleven 19-8 at the under twelve media timeout. Quote
geezer Posted February 11, 2024 Author Posted February 11, 2024 6:25 left in the first half and Lamar's lead is down to eight at 27-19. Cards have been playing a little sloppy the last few minutes, taking poor shots and not defending the three point shot as well. Nicholls has made three three-pointers. Granted two of them were very long, but Lamar can't give up open looks. Quote
geezer Posted February 11, 2024 Author Posted February 11, 2024 (edited) Lamar goes cold offensively and does not score over the last 4:59 of the half and Nicholls pulls to within two points at the half. Lamar 30-Nicholls 28. Hamilton and Anderson are both scoreless so far in the game. Nicholls is ahead in rebounding but has more turnovers than Lamar. Both teams are shooting about 35%, so no significant difference there. Nicholls has more free throw attempts than Lamar. Edited February 11, 2024 by geezer Quote
lamarfan360 Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Lamar goes cold offensively and does not score over the last 4:59 of the half and Nicholls pulls to within two points at the half. Lamar 30-Nicholls 28. Typical Lamar game as they get a lead but can not sustain it. Cardinals getting beat in the paint and shooting around 34% for the first half. Quote
geezer Posted February 11, 2024 Author Posted February 11, 2024 11:33 left in the game at the under twelve media timeout and Lamar has rebuilt the lead to nine points, 49-40. Quote
geezer Posted February 11, 2024 Author Posted February 11, 2024 Lamar now up by thirteen with 6:10 left in the game. Nicholls will be at the free throw line coming out of the timeout. Quote
geezer Posted February 11, 2024 Author Posted February 11, 2024 (edited) Lamar wins 75-56 and moves into a tie for second place as Corpus falls to McNeese. Lamar is on the road the next three games. These three will go a long way in determining where the Cards wind up in the regular season conference standings. All three are against teams Lamar defeated at home and the first two are against the last and next to last place teams. Men travel to UIW Monday at 6:30 PM Edited February 11, 2024 by geezer Quote
coachacola Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Time for them to start winning those road games. Quote
Skinny1 Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Thought Lamar showed some maturity tonight against a good team, especially BB Knight. Got really good minutes from Buckley and White. Thought Cards wore Nichols down with their full court defensive pressure. Lamar MBB really could make some hay in the SLC standings on this road trip. A&M-CC plays at Nichols Monday, so a Lamar win at UIW keeps them in 2nd place, while the 3rd team drops down. Hope Nicholls wins since Lamar owns tie-breaker against them. Quote
