geezer Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Ladies and men play at UNO this afternoon with the ladies tipping off at 2 PM. Ladies are in control of the regular season conference championship but must still win out at this point to have sole possession. For the men this weekend and next will determine if they are true contenders for upper tier conference tournament seeding or just another of the group making the tournament. With two road games this weekend, the men still need to prove they have matured to win road games. Lamar can't afford another embarrassing game like this past Monday's at UIW. Quote
geezer Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 Tight game, UNO won the first quarter 15-14 and out scored Lamar by one in the second to have a half time lead of 26-24. Lamar had eleven turnovers in the first half and shot only 32% from the field. Davis has two fouls. Quote
geezer Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 Third quarter is another tight one, but the Cards outscore UNO by three to take a one-point lead 40-39 after three. Quote
geezer Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 Lamar women escape with a three-point win 63-60 at UNO. UNO is a tough match up for Lamar as it appears they have a little more height overall and have at least one player capable of keeping Davis from at least totally taking over. Quote
coachacola Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Maybe the ladies can teach me men how to win on the road. Quote
geezer Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 At the 11:00 minute mark of the first half Lamar is up 19-14. While that is a real positive, the Cards should be up by more. Quote
geezer Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 Lamar has a nine-point lead at the half, 45-36 but should be at least the ten-point lead Lamar had with 10 seconds remaining and the ball. An early shot allowed UNO to get a long rebound and collect a foul on a three-point attempt. Fortunately, UNO only made one of three free throw attempts to close out the half. Quote
geezer Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 (edited) Still a long way to go, but Lamar makes four straight baskets including three three-pointers to open the first two minutes of the second half and jump out to a seventeen-point lead 56-39. Edited February 17 by geezer Quote
geezer Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 Lamar firmly in control with a 22-point lead and 7:12 left in the game. But still don't want to get confident as Lamar has missed its last two three-point attempts and Hamilton picked up his fourth foul. Quote
geezer Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 (edited) Lamar gets a 94-72 win at UNO for their second road win of the season. Cards had five players in double figures, lead by Hamilton with 17 and then Anderson with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Knight also had 16 points. Lamar out rebounded UNO 45-25 With the McNeese destruction of Nicholls today the Cards are back in a three way tie for second place, until at least Monday when the Cards play at Southeastern La.
